(Hey!) I've been living a lonely life
(Ho!) I've been sleeping here instead
(Hey!)I've been sleeping in my bed,
(Ho!) I've been sleeping in my bed (Hey!)
(Ho!)
(Ho!) So show me family
(Hey!) All the blood that I would bleed
(Ho!) I don't know where I belong
(Hey!) I don't know where I went wrong
(Ho!) But I can write a song (Hey!)
1,2,3 I belong with you, you belong with me you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me you're my sweet (Ho!)
(Hey!)
(Ho!)
(Hey!)
(Ho!) I don't think you're right for him
(Hey!) Look at what it might have been if you
(Ho!) Took a bus to Chinatown
(Hey!) I've been standing on Canal
(Ho!) And Bowery (Hey!)
(Ho!) And she'd be standing next to me (Hey!)
1,2,3 I belong with you you belong with me you're my sweetheart
I belong with you, you belong with me you're my sweetheart
And love, we need it now
Let's hope for some
Cause oh, we're bleeding out
I belong with you you belong with me you're my sweetheart
I belong with you you belong with me you're my sweet (Ho!)
(Hey!)
(Ho!)
(Hey!)
The Nashville Cast's "Ho Hey" is a song about longing for connection and family amidst feelings of loneliness and confusion. The song opens with the repetition of "Ho" and "Hey," which is a nod to the Lumineers' original version of the song. The lyrics convey the singer's desire to live a fulfilling life and find a sense of belonging. He expresses his frustration with himself for not being able to figure out where he belongs, all while sleeping in his bed every night. He then pleads for someone to provide him with a sense of family and belonging by showing him a love that he can bleed for.
The song's chorus, "I belong with you, you belong with me, you're my sweetheart," communicates the importance of finding that very special person, with whom one can develop a life together. The simple yet catchy melody and repetition of the chorus point to the idea that it is the uncomplicated relationships that truly fulfill us. The final lines of the song speak of a need for love and the hope that it will bring healing, all while repeating the chorus for emphasis.
