A Look At Society
Nasum Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So take a look at our society
Computer controlled technology
Development is all that counts
Money, profit and amount
Every face is so constrained
Just so they can win the game
Infuriating religious lies
Feeding on the weak minds
The weak minds!

You're so fucking influenced by propaganda
To live your live and set your standards
Let me hear you make your decisions
Without your fucking television
And when the TV set is broken
Not a word from you will be spoken

'Cause then your mind will be like nothing
So you just might be dead - you fucking thing!

Overall Meaning

In Nasum's song "A Look at Society," the lyrics describe a critical view of modern society, in which technology, development, and money are the driving forces behind everything. The opening line urges the listener to take a closer look at society, which is controlled by computers and technology. The focus is solely on development, profit, and amount, leaving no room for anything else. The second verse talks about how every individual in this society is constrained because they are trying to succeed in this game. The mentioning of infuriating religious lies feeding on weak minds suggests that devotion and faith are decaying.

The chorus talks about how people are excessively influenced by propaganda, and it's so ingrained in them that they don't know how to make decisions without the aid of their television. When the TV stops working, people don't know what to do without it. They become nothing, and their minds might as well be dead. The usage of coarse language throughout the song implies that this is an extremely important issue that needs to be taken seriously, and that people need to wake up and make a change for a better future.
