Relics
Nasum Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take aim at your promised land
Where would you be without it?
Destroy your legacy so grand
No "peace" will halt your vengeance

And so again...
What makes you settle so convinced?
A relic that leaves no room for peace?

So fragile it has always been
Outside main focus

Your focus should be suffering
Or have their cries made you go numb?
Can't you see the enemy within?
Blind with hate you desecrate what brought you here

But then again...
It makes you settle so convinced
A relic that leaves no room for peace

So fragile it has always been
Outside your focus

Extinction - your final goal
Now you're the relic

And so again...
You stand here settled, so convinced
Blindfolded, hatefilled, without regrets

The centre of attention
Doomed, you stand and fight the flames...

Lit by your own hand
You can't float upon the river of flame

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nasum's song Relics seem to be a commentary on the destructive nature of human conflict and the danger of holding onto hatred and vengeance. The first verse suggests a desire to destroy something that has been highly valued - "Destroy your legacy so grand". The second verse questions the motivation of those who are so convinced of the righteousness of their cause that they cannot see the suffering they are causing - "Your focus should be suffering; Or have their cries made you go numb?" The chorus refers to this destructive attitude as a "relic" that denies any possibility of peace and coexistence.

The third verse takes a more confrontational tone, identifying the enemy within and accusing them of desecrating what brought them to this point - presumably a suggestion that they have betrayed their own ideals. The final verse seems to suggest that those who hold onto their hatred and vengeance will ultimately become relics themselves, as their destructive actions lead to their own demise.

Overall, the song is a powerful condemnation of the cycle of violence and destruction that seems to be an inescapable part of human history. It suggests that the only way to break this cycle is to let go of the "relics" of past conflicts and work towards a future of peace and understanding.

Let It Be Known

I hate to admit it, but i just got into Nasum last year. I didn't come on here to cry about whether or not Nasum is hardcore, i came on to say what they REALLY are regardless of what "label" of music someone wants to slap on them: they are a DAMN GOOD BAND, PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!

To those of you whining about how this kickass song's been given a video on a crappy channel, you should be glad that this band is getting the exposure they deserve, enlightening those who dig for better music. Sure, it's very unfitting, but I'm sure that because of this video being where it is, someone's music library now has at least one killer track that they're appreciating and inspired by the awesome musicianship of.

Man: Nasum is back?! I was really sad about the death of Mieszko and the end of the band. I read quickly now their biography on official website of Nasum and looks like a "farewell" tour. Doesn't matter: I'm happy about the news! Rest in Peace, Mieszko. And long live for Nasum! One of my favourite grindcore bands!

Exactly! I love this band, in same way they are heavy and extreme I can feel the "melody" from his songs! "Shadows" is the best example of this!

Gift From God

swedish extreme music at its finest. i grew up on these guys and just now realized that to where i've moved is right next to where they came from.

Damn, I remember years ago, back in my drug years, I took too many Percocets, and Xanax. I passed out on the floor, and woke up in the hospital. That didn't bother me as much as the fact that they cut my Nasum t-shirt off me for some reason. The story only gets weirder from there.
