Around the World
Nat King Cole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Around the world, I've searched for you
I traveled on when hope was gone
To keep a rendezvous
I know somewhere, sometime, somehow

You'd look at me
And I would see the smile you're smiling now
It might have been in County Down
Or in New York

In Gay Paree or even London Town
No more will I go all around the world
For I have found my world in you

It might have been in County Down
Or in New York

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Nat King Cole's "Around the World" tell the tale of a long journey, both metaphorically and literally, to find love. The singer has traveled far and wide, even when hope seemed lost, in search of the person who holds their heart. They maintain a strong belief that they will eventually find their true love, somewhere, sometime, somehow. The song speaks to the universal experience of searching for love, and the joy and relief that comes with finally finding it.

Throughout the song, the lyrics reference specific places that the singer has traveled to in search of love. County Down, New York, Gay Paree (Paris), and London Town are all mentioned. These locations carry their own romantic connotations, and the singer's willingness to travel to them demonstrates the lengths they are willing to go in search of love. However, the lyrics are clear that the singer no longer needs to go "all around the world," as they have finally found the one they were looking for.

Overall, "Around the World" is a romantic, hopeful song about the universal human experience of searching for love. It tells a story of perseverance and dedication, and celebrates the joy of finally finding one's true love.

I had a music box to this tune as a child, I still have it. This is the best version of this song. 🇦🇺 ❤️

This is the version that he released way back the teenage days of my Brother & Cousins in the late 60s. I played their Oldies LP records collections in my teens days in late 90s.

My mom used to sing this as a lullaby for my brother and I. Now 34 years later I sing this song to my children to get them to sleep or calm them down. My mom passed away 3 years ago and I never knew this was an actual song until I just looked up the lyrics 😪. I miss my mom sooo much but memories from this song always brings her back to me for a moment. I have found my world in my children and I thank my mom for introducing me to this beautiful song.
