Nothin' in the World
Nat King Cole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I owned Aladdin's lamp
I'd make all your dreams come true
But nothing in the world
Could make me love you
More than I do

If I owned a magic clock
Then I'd keep our love brand new
But nothing in the world
Could make me love you
More than I do

Don't ever doubt my feelings
My love is real
My darling, I'm revealing
Exactly how I feel

If I owned a magic wand
I'd wave it for no one but you
But nothing in the world
Could make me love you
More than I do

My darling, I'm revealing
Exactly how I feel

If I owned a magic wand
I'd wave it for no one but you
But nothing in the world

Could make me love you
More than I do

Overall Meaning

In Nat King Cole's song "Nothing in the World," the lyrics convey the message of unconditional love. The singer in the song expresses their commitment and devotion to their partner. The first two verses mention the ownership of imaginary magical items such as Aladdin's lamp, magic clock, and a magic wand, and how they would use them to make their loved one happy, but nothing in the world could make them love them more than they already do.

The lyrics emphasize that the singer's love is genuine and unconditional. They try to convince their loved one by telling them to never doubt their feelings and that their love is real. The lyrics are very straightforward, and there is no doubt that the singer is deeply devoted to their partner.

The song's overall message is that true love cannot be bought, sold, or created by any kind of magic. Love comes from within, and there is nothing in the world that can make someone love another person more than they already do.

Great performance by Nat, as usual. But that recurring piano figure played ad nausium in the background just sucks on many levels. Other than the fact that it isn't the least bit musical and doesn't fit with other parts of the arrangement, but the repetitiveness of that piano figure is ridiculously distracting!
