For All We Know
Nat King Cole And The Nat King Cole Trio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

For all we know
We may never meet again
Before you go
Make this moment sweet again
We won't say Good night
Until the last minute
I'll hold out my hand
And my heart will be in it

For all we know
This may only be a dream
We come and go
Like a ripple on a stream
So love me tonight
Tomorrow was made for some
Tomorrow may never come
For all we know

So love me tonight
Tomorrow was made for some

Tomorrow may never come
For all we know

No over singing- a simple reading and interpretation of the lyrics. Nat Cole caresses each word rather than blowing them out of the water and stretching each syllable until it breaks. This is singing, few artists today could attempt this level of simplicity and sophistication.

This is a beautiful version. I love this song but Nat King Cole takes it to a higher level. Beautiful.

Beautiful. One of the best songs ever written. No one better to sing it than the late great Nat King Cole. He could sing the phone book and leave you feeling enchanted.

Compare this version with the second one Nat made years later. Both are great but very different from each other in terms of arrangement and singing style.

For me, the finest version - by far; it’s the combination of that wonderful unique voice perfectly blending with, I think, his trio. NKC was the greatest popular music singer - by far - but so tragically taken so young. I mourn him every day - but even in his short life he overcame racism by the genius of his voice.
