Cuarto Encima
Natalia y La Forquetina Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Despierta
Y busca en el ropero
Los libros
Que no leíste ayer

Despierta
Y busca en el ropero
Vestidos
Que no leíste ayer

Muñecas y las calcomanias
Que viven escondidas
Sólo quieren salir

Los discos
Sòlo guardan silencio
Y huele un poco a viejo
Tal vez quieren salir

Se mueven bien mis zapatillas
Y los calcetines me asfixian
Escapan de cajón

Se mueven bien mis pantorrillas
Las fotografías me miran
Escapan del cajón

Se me viene el cuarto encima
Se me vienen las mentiras

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Natalia y La Forquetina’s song Cuarto Encima starts with the singer urging the listener to wake up and search their wardrobe for the books they couldn’t manage to read the day before. The second verse then continues with the singer encouraging the listener to look for dresses they had been given but had yet to wear. The following lines then describe the desire of the listener's hidden belongings to be appreciated and used. These belongings include dolls and stickers that are hiding, and vinyl records that are now silent and perhaps forgotten.

As the song progresses, the singer’s shoes and socks begin to suffocate her, while the pictures in her photo album seem to come alive and are now watching her. The final lines of the song describe the listener's room (cubierto in the title's sense) closing in on them as the lies that have been hidden away like the items in the wardrobe and drawers are finally revealed.

The song overall seems to describe the suffocation that comes with hiding away things that should be used and appreciated but instead get pushed away and neglected. The lies that have been hidden away also represent the weight of secrets that can crush a person.
