Easy
Natasha Bedingfield Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We broke up
Yeah, it's tough
Most guys would've been crushed
Wastin' their time
Wonderin' where they went wrong
No way, not me
Hey, I'm doing just fine
I'm not afraid to move on

It's easy going out on a Friday night
Easy, every time I see her out
I can smile, live it up
The way a single guy does
But what she, what she don't know
Is how hard it is to make it look so
Easy

The truth is
That I miss lyin' in those arms of his
But I don't ever let it show
I laugh and I act like
I'm having the time of my life
As far as he knows

It's easy goin' out on a Friday night
Easy, every time I see him out
I can smile, live it up
Like a single girl does
But, what he, what he don't know
Is how hard it is to make it look so
Easy
Oh, it's easy

Oh, it's easy goin' out on a Friday night
Oh, it's easy every time I see him out
I can smile, live it up
Forget about the way it was
But what she
Oh, what he don't know
What she don't know
Is how hard it is to make it look so
Easy
Oh, oh, oh, oh

Oh, and it's so easy, it's so easy
Yeah, ooh, ooh

Overall Meaning

The song "Easy" by Natasha Bedingfield talks about a person who has recently gone through a breakup, but is trying to move on gracefully. While most people in a similar situation would be wallowing in self-pity and wondering what went wrong, the singer is resilient and is not afraid of moving on. The song highlights the contrast between how the singer portrays herself/himself to their ex-partner and how they truly feel inside. Outwardly, they seem to be living it up and enjoying their newfound freedom, but inwardly, they're struggling to adjust to the new normal.

Bedingfield's lyrics suggest that the facade of "easy" is just that, a false representation of their true feelings. They highlight that maintaining and portraying a care-free attitude in the aftermath of a breakup can be a challenging and emotionally tiring experience. This is exemplified by the lines, "But what she, what she don't know is how hard it is to make it look so easy."

Overall, the song's message is about the complexity of emotions involved in moving on after a breakup. The song emphasizes that trying to make everything seem effortless can sometimes make it harder to heal.

It’s 2024 and this is still the best cross over duo collab in existence in my opinion. Love Carrie and Jason, Carrie and Brad etc… but these two!!! definition of artistry and vocals. Listen to those dynamics. My word! Beautiful

@DaddyTre65

Rascal Flatts are masters of the heartbreak ballad!! Powerful and touching vocals by Gary LeVox and Natasha Bedingfield.

@sarahfaust

I can’t explain how beautiful Gary’s voice is. It moves me to tears almost every single time I hear that beautiful, magical voice. It’s not even comparable.

Honestly the best duet I've heard. Natasha Bedingfield's voice fits this song perfectly, and it seems like her and Gary have natural chemistry.
