The Chase
Natashya Hawley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Let's say predators
I have weapons
That could destroy them
You must out-create
I am the hunter
And the hunted
Joined together
You create duality
And neutrality
I must leave you
With the Fire muse
Show her the riddle
It is serious
If you lose
Out there
I'll be the hare
Then I'm the greyhound
Chasing after you
Then I will change my frequency
To a fish that thinks
Then you will find yourself
In the paws
Of the otter
Near her jaws
Then I'll grow my wings
As a flying thing
Flying thing, you be warned
I'm the falcon
Watch me change
Into a grain of corn
A grain of corn
Hear the alarm
In your head
I'm the hen
Black and red
And you're in my barn
They would have won
Use your head or you'll be dead
The lyrics of the song 'The Chase' by Natashya Hawley appear to be about a survival scenario where the singer is trying to outsmart and outrun predators who are chasing them. The singer seems confident about their weapons and abilities to protect themselves but also acknowledges the importance of creativity in defeating the predators. The line "You must out-create, it's the only way" suggests that mere physical strength and weapons may not be enough to win the chase, and one must also use their intelligence and creative problem-solving skills.
The singer refers to themselves as both the hunter and the hunted, indicating a sense of duality and conflicting roles. They also ask the recipient of the message to "show the riddle" to the Fire muse, which could mean seeking inspiration or guidance from a higher power or a source of creativity. The final lines of the song seem to warn against complacency and urge the recipient to use their head, or else they might be in danger of losing the chase.

It's amazing to see the transition from Natasha to who she is now. Her voice is completely different to what it is here and her mother. I have no idea what this means, but I'm not sure where that leaves us. I hope Natasha finds success, no matter who she wants to be, but it seems all generations seem to sound alike, i.e. Promise. I love this album because it is wholly Tori, but Natasa is a different being, and while her voice is nice it's not unique. I discovered that by listening to Promise.

I apologize if this is poor etiquette, injecting myself into another's conversation, but I feel a strong disagreement with your comment regarding Tash's voice. I am of the mind that if your ear can't hear THE tune then it is your own wayward sense of sound... Every voice is unique, especially once a person finds "their voice." Anyhow, as for me, I heard something amazing in Tash's Tune... And not for nothin but that scratchy blues kinda soul kinda sound shes JUST spreading her wings... If that young woman ever chooses to really pull the trigger and cut into it bet your ass she will set FIRES with her soul, and her voice. Maybe if people were a little more tolerant in allowing people to NOT be PERFECT at ALL times, then perhaps one day after being given the "permission" to not be born perfect, then perhaps more people would feel safe enough to allow themselves to be vulnerable long enough to gift the world with a song, and sing... Lets not forget that sometimes we NEED to bend our ear to "hear" the tune. Eh? I dunno… maybe im wrong. We shall see, I suppose... At any rate... I'd like to close with this... Thank you Tori, and Tash, mother and daughter, you're both utterly amazing... <3
