On a grand auld Dublin day
When she walked right up and she said hello
And I stopped to ask her name
When I saw her face for the first time
I knew right then I had to make her mine
Her lovely smile drove me insaneAnd I fell in love
With Sarah Jane
Well she pulled out a fiddle and she rosined up the bow
And she began to play
Oh she jumped right in with the jigs and the reels
And the shores of Botany Bay
When I heard her play, for the first time
I knew right then I had to make her mine
Her lovely sound drove me insane
And I fell in love with Sarah Jane
Now we go back every now and then
To the place on Grafton street
Where we met that day and we fell in love
Playing tunes in harmony
When I saw her face for the first time
I knew right then I had to make her mine
Her lovely smile drove me insane
And I fell in love
With Sarah Jane
When I saw her face for the first time
I knew right then I had to make her mineHer lovely smile drove me insane
And I fell in love
With Sarah Jane
The song "Sarah Jane" by Nathan Carter is a charming love story that recounts the tale of a chance encounter between the singer and a woman named Sarah Jane whom he meets on Grafton Street in Dublin. As the singer is playing music on the street, he meets Sarah Jane, who introduces herself and pulls out a fiddle to join in on the tunes. The singer is immediately struck by her beauty and musical talent, and they quickly fall in love while playing music together.
The lyrics describe the initial attraction between the two, with the singer falling in love at first sight when he "saw her face for the first time." He is enamored by her "lovely smile" and "lovely sound" when she plays the fiddle. The chorus is a repetition of this sentiment, emphasizing the powerful effect that Sarah Jane has on the singer.
The song is a celebration of music and the power it has to bring people together. It is autobiographical, as Nathan Carter himself is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who often performs on the streets of Dublin. The song's upbeat tempo and catchy melody make it a crowd-pleaser, and it has become a popular song among country and folk music fans.
