Where I wanna be

Nathan Carter

I'm gonna call that number,
I don't really mean to wake you from your slumber.
While Ireland is asleep.
This hotel is just like yesterday's,
And the city has no name.
It just stands there in the Grey haze,
And my room is the same.

Well I'm gonna call that number,
So far across the sea.
I wish I was in Ireland,
That's where I wanna be,
That's where I wanna be.

I love it when you miss me,
And I'm unhappy too.
Oh please don't you forget me,
I am so in love with you.

Yeah it won't be long now,
And even though I know,
I seem to leave my heart behind me,
Every time I go.

Well I'm gonna call that number,
So far across the sea.
I wish I was in Ireland,
That's where I wanna be,
That's where I wanna be.

Repeat

So I feel so tired and lonely,
I'm thinking of you lover,
I wish you could console me,
Maybe when it's over.

Well I'm gonna call that number,
So far across the sea.
I wish I was in Ireland,
That's where I wanna be,
That's where I wanna be.

The hotel is like yesterday's,
And the city has no name.
It just stands there in the Grey haze,
And my room is the same.

Well I'm gonna call that number,
So far across the sea.
I wish I was in Ireland,

That's where I wanna be,
That's where I wanna be.

Overall Meaning

Nathan Carter's song "Welcome To the Weekend" is a longing for a place he calls home, Ireland. The lyrics express the singer's desire to be in Ireland, amidst the hustle and bustle of city life while being in a hotel room in an unidentified place. He tries to reach out to somebody back home to alleviate his sense of being homesick. The lines "It just stands there in the Grey haze, And my room is the same" further illustrate his stagnant mental state. He is unable to move on without being in the presence of what his heart desires. However, even though he knows it is time to move on, he leaves his heart behind every time he goes away.

The tone of the song is melancholic, as it appears to be a personal reflection of the artist's own experience. The lines "I feel so tired and lonely," and "I'm thinking of you, lover," display his loneliness, compounded by the fact that he is away from everything and everyone he loves. The lyrics and the sound of the song are evocative of homesickness, and the eagerness to return to a comforting and familiar environment.
