Ten
Nathan Dawe Lyrics

If I get knocked down I'll be back again
I'm a fighter 'til the bitter end
If I fall nine times then I'll get up, get up ten
I got bruises I got scars
I got lost inside the darkness, the darkness
I felt alone I felt afraidAll my demons left me heartless, so heartless but
One look in the mirror and I know I'm not a quitter
If I fall nine times, then I'll get up ten
If I get knocked down I'll be back again
I'm a fighter 'til the bitter end
If I fall nine times then I'll get up, get up ten
Oh, oh
Then I'll get up, get up ten
Oh, oh
Then I'll get up, get up ten
See there were times I wasn't sure
There were times I felt the thunder, thunder
I've been through hell and back before
Only left me feeling stronger, stronger 'cause
One look in the mirror all I'm seeing is a winner
If I fall nine times, then I'll get up ten
If I get knocked down I'll be back again
I'm a fighter 'til the bitter end
If I fall nine times then I'll get up, get up ten
I'll get up ten
If I fall to the ground
And when I'm in doubt
I'll get up ten
Because you can't keep me down
I'll get up ten
I'll get up ten
Through the storm and the rain
I'll get up ten
Through the hurt and the pain
I'll get up ten
'Cause whatever it takes I will get up ten
Now get up ten
If I fall nine times, then I'll get up ten
If I get knocked down I'll be back again
I'm a fighter 'til the bitter end
If I fall nine times then I'll get up, get up ten
Oh, oh
Then I'll get up, get up ten
Oh, oh
Then I'll get up, get up ten
Nathan Dawe's song "Ten" encapsulates a powerful message about resilience and determination in the face of adversity. The recurring motif of falling down and getting back up serves as a central theme, emphasizing the importance of perseverance. The lyrics suggest a strong belief in the capacity to overcome challenges, no matter how many times one encounters setbacks. This reflects not only a personal ethos of strength but also a universal affirmation that anyone can rise after being knocked down. The phrase “If I fall nine times, then I’ll get up ten” acts as both a mantra and a rallying cry, underscoring the inevitability of struggle while framing it as a necessary part of growth.
The imagery of bruises and scars introduces an intimate look at the struggles the singer has faced. This acknowledgment of pain and suffering indicates that the journey has not been easy and that there are tangible consequences of past experiences. The references to darkness and feeling lost evoke a sense of isolation and fear, which many listeners can relate to. However, it is the decision to confront one’s demons and the revelation found in self-reflection—“One look in the mirror and I know I'm not a quitter”—that signifies a turning point. The lyrics highlight self-awareness and a turning towards inner strength, suggesting that personal battles, while significant, do not define one’s identity or fate.
The song also touches on the cyclical nature of doubt and destruction, with the repetition of feeling uncertain during tumultuous times. Yet, even in these moments, the singer maintains an underlying belief that such experiences ultimately contribute to strength and character. The line, “I’ve been through hell and back before / Only left me feeling stronger,” reinforces the idea that adversity can be transformative. This approach frames personal trials not just as obstacles, but rather as opportunities to fortify oneself—creating a narrative where struggle leads to empowerment rather than despair.
Finally, the conclusion of the song reaffirms the resolve to rise above hardship no matter how daunting the circumstances may be. The repetition of phrases like “I’ll get up ten” transforms into an anthem of empowerment, encouraging both the singer and the listeners to embrace resilience. This insistence on fighting through “the storm and the rain” and “through the hurt and the pain” serves as a powerful reminder of the human spirit's ability to endure. The overall message is clear: resilience is not about avoiding failure but about having the strength to rise, learn, and persist. In essence, Dawe's lyrics are a celebration of the fighter within each individual and a call to action for anyone facing their challenges.

@OliBenet
I battled through cancer and almost died. My aorta bypass got infected and they told me I was terminal, I battled to get seen at another hospital and they did 9.5 hour surgery to save me. It got infected and they had to move my kidney and aorta to another part of my body in another lifesaving 9.5 hour surgery. My kidney almost died but recovered, contrary to everyone’s expectations. I’ve been in hospital now for almost 3 months. I haven’t cried, I’ve just battled and battled to stay alive every day. I heard this song and for the first time I cried, and it made me feel strong. Thank you for making it.
