Growing up in Norfolk and attending a school where being into music made you an outsider, Nathan Fake’s early interest in the electronic scene came from hearing acts like Aphex Twin and Orbital. Having begun to acquire and experiment with his own gear, an encounter with James Holden in 2003 led him to align with the then fledgling label Border Community, releasing his first material, the “Outhouse” single, that same year.
The relationship with Holden’s label continued with further EP releases - “The Sky Was Pink” and “Silent Night” - leading to his breakthrough debut album “Drowning In A Sea Of Love”, released in 2006 to widespread praise from the likes of Pitchfork and the Guardian, and hailed as one of Mixmag’s top albums of that year. Fake recorded two further albums for the label - 2009’s “Hard Islands” and “Steam Days” in 2012 - before establishing his own label Cambria Instruments in 2014 alongside former Border Community associate Wesley Matsel. Their collaborative single "Black Drift / Bismuth” was followed by Fake's solo effort “Glaive” EP in 2015. Throughout this time he also took on a number of impressive and diverse remixes, from Radiohead to Jon Hopkins to Clark, working for labels such as Ninja Tune, Domino, Warp and Kompakt. Extensive touring has taken his sound across the globe, including notable tours with Orbital, Four Tet, Jon Hopkins & Clark.
In September 2016 Nathan announced his signing to Ninja Tune with "DEGREELESSNESS / Now We Know” 12”, featuring NYC’s Prurient aka Vatican Shadow (Hospital Productions). This is the first music to be released from his forthcoming album for Ninja Tune, set for release in 2017.

Close your eyes and think of this
If the rumors floating in your head all turn to facts
Close your eyes and think on this
Armenia, city in the sky
Armenia, city in the sky
If you ever want to lose some time
Just take off, there's no risk
Just take off and think of this
Armenia, city in the sky
Armenia, city in the sky
The sky is glass, the sea is brown
And everyone is upside-down
Armenia, city in the sky
Armenia, city in the sky
Freak out
Freak out
The song The Sky Was Pink by Nathan Fake is a dreamy and ethereal piece that carries an interesting story behind its lyrics. The song seems to contain messages about overcoming anxiety, escaping reality, and finding oneself in a peaceful state of mind. The opening lines "If you're troubled and you can't relax, close your eyes and think of this" suggest that the song is aimed at those struggling with anxiety and depression, encouraging them to find solace by closing their eyes and contemplating their inner state.
The song's central image of "Armenia, city in the sky" is a poetic metaphor for a place where troubles disappear, and one can find genuine peace. The lyrics encourage listeners to take a break and disconnect from the world around them to access this imaginary city in the sky, where there is no risk and time seems to stand still. The frantic repetition of the line "Freak out" at the end of the song seems to suggest that sometimes breaking away from the stress and expectations of everyday life is necessary to achieve a sense of calm.
Overall, The Sky Was Pink is a beautiful tune with inspiring messages that seem to aim at reducing stress and anxiety. The song offers a message of hope to deal with the challenges of life, encouraging listeners to slow down, relax, and seek inner peace.

Pink sky's stage my childhood imagination. As a child i asked, Mum why is the sky pink?
Mother-bird replied " Tommorow there will be a wind..."
I never truly understood.
But I'm all grown up now , I now understand that tomorrow represent the winds of change...
I Thank Master James for the reinforcement.
James one of true Guided Artistics in forefront of his game. An true interpreter !

I've been looking for that song for at least 6-7 years, I remember that I recorded that in a set from some shoutcast radio so long ago, could never figure out who made this. I hid that set in one of my old friend's PS3, hadn't seen him forever until yesterday -- only to find out that what I recorded happened to be Tiesto @ Dance Department in 2004. Finally able to get my hands on the track list, I find this video right here of the original song.
This is a massive track -- this haunting melody quantized from a slow rhythm to repeated jumpy notes with a high release from a simple 8-bit sounding square wave, the almost irritating (yet excellent) side-chained static at 2:45 that makes you anxious about what's going to happen, only to be rudely interrupted at 3:14 which releases your anxiety all in one shot; the static stops, only to start again and going progressively stronger. I cannot emphasis enough about how this particular part juggle with my emotions and is truly the work of a genius.

What a memory. A well orchestraed piece that still holds up nearly 2 decades later. This one will always have a spot in my library.

Im born in 88, im proud to say i have lived the amazing life. Playing outdoors, building camps in the Woods, playing army men. But most important, i have been blessed with the best music growing up. The best hiphop and rap, the best house, techno, trance you name it. We have heard it. Glad to be part of that generation ❤️❤️❤️
