Heart Of Mine
Nathan Reich Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Her father as a concrete man
And her mother was a painter
Born with good hands
She was born a creator

But the coiled heat
Of this neon light
Wont help anyone find anything tonight
Doesnt feel like rain but you know it might
You wont find anything tonight

She said Ill leave in the morning time
Straightest road from my twisted mind
For the love that I placed on the line
Ill never understand this heart of mine

2 years in New York city
Still lost on the train
So this is what it looks like
To see a man go insane

She rents a new room
Puts her matress on the floor
The phone doesnt ring like it used to anymore
And all your life youre been waiting by the door
But youre not breathing anymore

She said Ill leave in the morning time
Straightest road from my twisted mind
For the love that I placed on the line
Ill never understand this heart of mine

But I repair the x-rays in your eyes
The radiation in your mind
And I tell you now
Dont leave me here
These walls are gone
But Im still here
Alone

So Ill leave in the morning time
Straightest road from my twisted mind
For the love that I placed on the line
Ill never understand this heart of mine

Ill never understand this heart of mine

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nathan Reich’s “Heart of Mine” imbue a sense of confusion, nostalgia, and loss. The song describes the story of a woman who is a creator by birth but is placed in the middle of the chaos of neon lights and city life, a place where she can no longer find solace. Her parents, who are polar opposites, define her in their unique ways. Her father being a concrete man and her mother a painter, she was born with good hands, which depict her creativity. The coiled heat of the neon lights might not help anyone find anything tonight, and it doesn't seem like it's raining yet, but it might any time, so the woman won't find anything tonight.

The woman believes that leaving in the morning might help her find peace. The chorus emphasizes the twisted mind of the woman and tells us that she loves something so much that she places it on the line, possibly even her sanity. Life felt like being lost on a train in New York City, and now she’s renting a new room, putting her mattress on the floor but her phone doesn't ring like it used to anymore. She has spent her life waiting for something at the door, but she's not breathing anymore.

Overall, the song emphasizes the uncertain state of mind of the woman who's trying to find peace after going through chaos, leaving listeners to question the outcome of her life. It hits on the message of how sometimes we can feel out of place in unfamiliar situations, like a neon-lit city, and how that feeling can cause us to question ourselves and find nothing even if we're looking.

Every time I start to listen to this song I want to cry.  Its not even the words, it's the brilliant melody of the guitar and his voice combined. It evokes such emotion, seriously brilliant. It's one of those sounds that puts a grip around your heart, you don't know why you want to cry but you do. Thank you for this!

His guitar playing is, for want of a better word, hypnotic.

I tend to flip-flop between genres, but I must say that there is never a bad time for this song. The style of a guy, guitar and camera always rules in my mind because you know nothing is doctored and this is a perfect example of making music seem so easy, yet so perfect all on its own. Really just amazing, Man. Keep up what you're doing. Thanks again, cR@cK3rF@rM!
