Grenade
Nathaniel Drew & Salt Lake Pops Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But you won't do the same.
what you don't understand
is I'd catch a grenade for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya
Yes, I would die for ya baby
But you won't do the same.
I gave you all I had, you tossed it in the trash,
To give me all your love is all
I've ever asked cause what you don't understand,
is I'd catch a grenade for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya
Yes, I would die for ya baby
But you won't do the same.
what you don't understand,
is I'd catch a grenade for ya
You know I'd do anything for ya
Yes, I would die for ya baby
But you won't do the same.
The lyrics of Grenade by Nathaniel Drew & Salt Lake Pops Orchestra feat. Alex Boyé & Lindsey Stirling express the one-sided nature of a romantic relationship, where the singer is willing to do anything for their partner, including sacrificing their life, but their partner does not reciprocate those feelings. The repetition of the lines "Yes, I would die for ya baby, but you won't do the same" emphasizes the frustration and disappointment the singer feels. The metaphor of catching a grenade for their partner highlights the extreme lengths the singer is willing to go to prove their love, but it ultimately falls on deaf ears.
The lines "I gave you all I had, you tossed it in the trash / You tossed it in the trash, yes you did" reveal that the singer has already given their all to the relationship, but their efforts were not valued or appreciated by their partner. The plea to "give me all your love" shows that the singer is not asking for grand gestures, just genuine affection and reciprocity.
Overall, Grenade portrays a heartbreaking situation where one person is willing to go above and beyond for their partner, but that love is not returned, leading to an unbalanced and unhappy relationship.

This is so much better than the original. Simply the way he sings makes the lyrics seem much more honest
@jessicarandom3286
He added his own style to it, which I agree makes it better than the original
@housecatwithadegree
True. The orginal lyrics seems a little creepy and obsessive (the "bad woman, mad woman, that's just what you are" part) and this feels like speaking straight from the heart, the feelings.

I originally came here to listen to more of Lindsey's work, but I am happy that I came here to discover Alex Boye as well! What a soulful voice and I love and admire his story of triumph and perseverance as well. I feel blessed to have heard this beautiful rendition of one of my favorite songs.
