You Worry Me
Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm alright today
You gonna find a way to cross and you gonna get there
And I'm on fire today
Ain't no water here to calm or even put me out
I'll find a better way
Am I crazy or the wind is gonna blow me down?

I'm gonna leave it all out there to dry
I'm gonna leave it all out there
I'm gonna leave it all out there to dry up
I'm gonna leave it all out there

You seem tired today
Were you up all night afraid of what the future might bring?
I feel fine today
I've had dreams of you in places I've not seen before
You get so carried away
Like lovers new to bodies first to touch you here
This ain't a getaway
You built walls around your heart to try to lock it in

I'm gonna leave it all out there to dry
I'm gonna leave it all out there
I'm gonna leave it all out there to dry up
I'm gonna leave it all out there

And upon the wind it's carried
Over the cities and the plains
You got time you're on the mend babe
And everybody wants the same
Everybody wants the same thing

I'm gonna leave it all out there to dry
I'm gonna leave it all out there
I'm gonna leave it all out there to dry up
I'm gonna leave it all out there

But you worry me
You worry me
You worry me
You worry me

You worry me
You worry me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats's song You Worry Me is all about emotions and feelings. The song begins with the singer trying to convince himself that he's alright today and he will find a way to cross and will eventually get there. The lyrics convey a sense of urgency and the singer appears to be on fire with no water to calm him down. He then questions if he's crazy or if the wind will blow him down. This could be interpreted as feeling overwhelmed by the events around him and worrying about whether he has what it takes to overcome whatever obstacles come his way.

As the song progresses, the singer talks about how he's going to leave everything out in the open, indicating a sense of vulnerability. He then addresses someone who appears to be tired and worried about the future. He tells them he feels fine and has had dreams of them in places he's not seen before. He points out that they get carried away at times, and that they have built walls around their heart to lock it in. The singer seems to be trying to reassure them that he will leave everything out there to dry, including his emotions, in order to help them overcome their fears and worries.

The chorus continues to repeat the phrase "you worry me," indicating that the person the singer is addressing is causing him some concern. However, the tone of the song is upbeat and optimistic, indicating that the singer feels they can overcome any worries and fears they are experiencing.

I keep coming back to it. Its uplifting but sombre and I like feeling a little bit of both. Edit: just to add its the piano that makes it feel uplifting to me.

All his songs are great.

Several years ago I spent the night at my grandparent's house and was messing with an old radio. This song played after a minute and my Grandma asked me about the song. I don't fully remember what she asked, but I remember her liking it.

That seems like a silly, unimportant memory, but whenever I hear this song I'm always reminded of it. I don't even think she listened to the full song or even said more than "I like it." But her passion for music and life just seems to reverberate back into my mind every single time I hear this.
Miss you Grandma
