Erse 1:

If you love the NHS,
Want your health care at its best,
Then don't sit quietly,
Stand up and sing with me,
Don't forget you have a choice,
So shout it out and raise your voice,
Don't let your junior docs,
Be worked around the clock

Lives that we save
The price that we pay
Long hours turn into days
Yes we get run down
But still we stand proud
So listen when you hear us shout

The NHS needs saving
And they're not listening
But we've got something to say
You can save us
Don't let them break us
We are your doctors
Let's keep it that way

The NHS should be yours
Let's keep it yours
Your lives are what we stand for
So let's keep it yours

Every doctor loves the job they do
And we only want the best for you
Help us to keep you safe

Don't take our rights away
You come to us when you're in pain
But you and I are just the same
If the NHS survives
We can keep saving lives

To care for you,
Is what we do,
So hear us now we need you too
We stand as one
Together we're strong
They'll listen when they hear our song

The NHS needs saving
And they're not listening
But we've got something to say
You can save us
Don't let them break us
We are your doctors
Let's keep it that way

The NHS should be yours
Let's keep it yours

Your lives are what we stand for
So let's keep it yours

Overall Meaning

The National Health Singers' song "Yours" is a powerful anthem dedicated to defending and championing the UK's National Health Service (NHS). The lyrics are a call to arms for people to take action and stand up for their rights to quality, free healthcare. The first verse urges listeners to participate in a collective voice by singing along and not remaining complacent about their healthcare.

The second verse highlights the sacrifices made by NHS employees to provide the best care possible to patients despite the long hours and stressful working conditions. The chorus's repetition of the phrase "The NHS needs saving, and they're not listening" expresses the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for people to take action before it's too late.

The final verse is a plea to protect the NHS for everyone's benefit, with the lines, "The NHS should be yours, let's keep it yours / Your lives are what we stand for / So let's keep it yours" emphasizing that the NHS is a public service for everyone, and it requires public support to continue providing the best care possible.

In sum, "Yours" is a powerful anthem that highlights the sacrifices made by NHS workers and underlines the importance of protecting the NHS. It urges people to take action to defend and uphold the collective right to quality health care.

I'm probably going to get harassed & trolled for my comment but I don't care, I'm going to say it.

Thank you NHS for keeping me alive. I know I struggle with mental illness but I am grateful for your paramedics saving my life when I was laying outside my home, struggling to breathe, I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for your medics, I now have a diagnosis and I haven't touched a cigarette since.

The NHS has kept me alive for most of my life.

Who knows what pill will fix my head but at least my heart is beating and I can finally breathe better and I actually have a life to live.
We need these hardworking students, these nurses, these junior doctors... even the pharmacists, ALL of the NHS staff, we need them. If they go private it'll affect the staff's payments, because no-one is going to request help if it's going to cost them.

If anyone should have to pay for medical treatment it should be those idiot teenagers & adolescents who keep getting drunk and fighting each other, they always take up the beds with their self-inflicted wonds and constant vomiting whilst those poor elderly people with alzheimers/dementia who don't know who they are or where they are are all left out in the hallway.

I believe that hospitals should have a separate department where they keep all the intoxicated patients and charge them for their treatment because it's their own fault they're injured and sick, they chose to drink and fight people and all these homeless drug addicts sleeping on the floor, begging for money and cigarettes and faking their mental illness just so they can get a free accommodation. It makes me sick and then you get some people are coming from other countries (again, some NOT all) who are abusing the system, they know the UK has free healthcare so that's why they come and steal other patients' appointments.

Agree with +Olivia P
Also, is there a reason why doctors shouldn't get pay rises? Why should the train operators be allowed to have a strike at least twice every year EXACTLY FOR THAT REASON? TO ASK FOR PAY RISE!

Surely the NHS staff deserve better treatment, but sadly, most people only realise it AFTER they had to use the NHS services, and maybe have their live saved by the very doctors who were in the video.

I'm the regional choir director for the national health singers. This choir was set up less than 6 weeks ago, an original sing was written and recorded and it has now expanded to involve 7 national choirs...
we are trying to raise awareness and spread the message through the medium of music which is a much more powerful way to reach everyone...
it's a great story and I would be so grateful for your support

In tears listening to these wonderful singers thinking about my own life threatening accident decades ago and the premature birth of my grandson. Oh, and yes, in the early days of the NHS, in 1951, when I broke my arm, and the surgeon telling my mother how lucky I was not to lose the arm. Love you all.

Great story Richard, some people never appreciate the NHS until they need it. Support the NHS Christmas number 1 campaign too. It needs help, only a few days left, but it's doing well.

Love this song, and as an x nurse, loved working for the NHS. Shame on the people who have disliked this.....no heart. Let's keep this going, where would we be without you guys. X

I love this, incredibly powerful. The NHS is a fantastic service, I don't know where we'd be without it! It's so important that we save the service. The NHS saves lives, they provide essential treatment that many of us couldn't afford alone. I got vital treatment that I could never have afforded myself, without it I doubt I'd be here. #LoveTheNHS
