The group formed in East Orange, New Jersey, and first appeared on the music scene in the late 1980's releasing an album titled The Independent Leaders, under their then name The New Style. The album generated the minor hit "Scuffin' Those Knees". After the release of their first album, the group was subsequently mentored by fellow New Jersey native Queen Latifah and consequently changed their name.
Their first hit as Naughty By Nature was a track titled "O.P.P." ("Other People's Parts"), which sampled the The Jackson 5's hit "ABC" and was released in 1991 on their self-titled debut album. The album also generated another hit titled "Ghetto Bastard" (the track is often referred to as "Everything's Gonna Be Alright"). Fellow New Jersey native Tony D, accused Naughty by Nature of stealing a sample from his breakbeat album Music Makes You Move and using it on their track "O.P.P.". The matter was settled out of court. Later they had multiple hits from their third and fourth albums, titled 19 Naughty III and Poverty's Paradise respectively.
"Hip Hop Hooray" was a success from the album 19 Naughty III. Its video was directed by Spike Lee and featured other hip-hop artists popular in the early 1990's, including Queen Latifah, Eazy-E, and Kris Kross.
The group also scored a major hit with the track "Uptown Anthem", from the soundtrack to the 2Pac movie Juice.
In later years, Naughty by Nature started their own music imprint, Illtown Records, and released an album from their proteges the Rottin Razkals. The group (mainly Kaygee) worked closely with a number of rnb groups over the years particularly Zhané and Next.
An ongoing dispute between Kaygee and Treach saw Kaygee leave Naughty by Nature in late 2000 to concentrate on his Divine Mill label. The remainder of the group released an album in 2002 titled IIcons, using a variety of different producers including Da Beatminerz - the album however received a lukewarm reception from the public. Treach is rumoured to be releasing a solo album soon. Kaygee has been extremely successful building his Divine Mill imprint with 2 platinum plus albums on both (Divine Mill acts) Jaheim and Next as well as songs on albums from Syleena Johnson and Charlie Wilson among others. In May 2006 Kay Gee reunited with Treach and Naughty by Nature at a concert at B.B. King's nightclub. They will be working together on their next album.

Man. This is one of the hardest song lyrics I've ever tried to transcribe. Treach isn't the easiest to understand. I'm sure I still got a lot wrong, but I think my transcription is a lot closer than the lyrics in the description:
[Treach]
As long as I could shit solids and piss liquids, I'ma kick it!
I ain't gots to say I'm wicked, scalpin’ ass-whippin’ tickets!
And for those who ask us why're we still here?
We know we leak to the streets!
No party there to help us outta here!
Pile up the switch up, switch up the style up
Say somethin' fouled up!
Ya come to step to us, I'll set ya towered!
Go and get your neck knocked off!
Get in a wreck off, so step off!
Before you wipe the floor like a stepped cloth!
They like to duel, jumpin’ bones on low like Judo, my bite
Leaves your brain feeling light, like- (Let them do, though!)
Ya know I order flows to-go, ‘cause mine froze in gold
Havin' mo' than yo’s, door to door and much mo' in sto’!
Keep ya nose out my dough!
"How much I made?" Don't guess, just grin!
Just know my income comes in!
There's really nothing left to throw!
Tell us where's the flow or the show! Uh-oh!
So here we go. (Here we go. Here we go.)
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
You ain't hard enough to-
Hit wind! Knock down bread, fight through rain!
Here is the perfect wrecker, scaring rappers with my name!
And if you can't say, "Hello" at the same show
Then don't sit your R&B ass in the same row!
'Cause I might have a fit, y’all!
I might try to twist your wig off
Then tell you when to hit salt!
Prissy Ass of the Week! Hasta Ditsy Ass of the Month!
We’ll punch a sissy rapper until he sissy slumps!
End all! Before your whole body snotty- OH NOO!
I got more talent in my shrinky, stinky, pinky toe!
I didn't know how many rhymes that flowed
I sprouted talent, sorta mystic and my notebook's for my couch!
So it's time to make 'em shout! The way we feel we might
Drop another album two days after this one comes out!
Word to rap, I won't slack, for no one to no ho, so...
Here we go. (Here we go, here we go.)
(Here we go. Here we go. Come on)
(Here we go. Here we go. Come on)
(Here we go. Here we go. Come on)
(Here we go. Here we go. Come on)
My circle work and hurt the Urkel, now the vertical's cursed!
Yo, jerk! They get so fat, it get had by the Maad Circle!
And what you gonna feel? How you gonna feel, when I flow?
-OHH! (I wanna know, I wanna know, I wanna know) -Yo!
I'm the fear of the year! Yeah, I'm that fear!
And I'm the same trigga nigga from last year!
A plenty if any slacker's written slicker, I'm whippin’!
And if your girl is missin’, that's the new kitten I'm hittin’!
So don't put out an A.P.B., put out an O.P.P.
Done by you know me, he he (Me, he he)
Hangin' like a tassel. Honey, wanna wrassle?
I'll tear you a new heinie like the Rottin Razkals!
Past ho's have no place to roam, they alone!
So pat 'em on their ass and send the ho's home!
And best not have an attitude
If ya are a ho with an attitude
If I stuff you that should flatter you!
Never diss the Flavor Unit, 'cause we'll do it badder, you
Punch and batter you. They might want to battle you!
We got the tricky he's for the tricky she's!
We got La, Salt 'N Pepa, Yo-Yo, Lyyte and Nikki D!
And they come figured in the higgy, G!
And how your lost ass was found is still a fuckin’ mystery!
And you could bring any one friend
I'll leave ya cryin' like an onion
Walkin' crooked like a bunion, here we go!
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
(Here we go, here we go. Come on.)
(Here we go.)

Treach’s flow was insane on this album. Although they got the Grammy for their 3rd album, this was their most complete album by far.
Ricky Taylor
Hell yea! Dope

This is better than any rap today, real shit! Treach is majorly underrated. His lyrics are unreal...
