Fall
Nautical Mile Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you even know what you're defending
This noise is never ending
Its hard to breath when you're on my neck
This pain as deep as my regret
I've never felt such apathy
I'm on my knees, just let me bleed
We empty ourselves
So we feel nothing

Quit stealing the colour from my dreams
We're splitting at the seams
We had it all
And now I'll watch you fall
I wont listen to your screams
Nothing is ever as it seems
We had it all
And now I'll watch you fall

Pretty garbage, good riddance and goodbye
The rotten apple of my eye
I'll clean you out just like its spring
Remember don't come back again
Here I lay my lungs still heaving
Undefeated, heart still beating

We empty ourselves
So we feel nothing

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nautical Mile's song Fall are a reflection of the pain and apathy that one feels after being betrayed or hurt by someone close. The opening line, "Do you even know what you're defending?", is a rhetorical question directed at the person who caused the pain. The line sets the tone for the subsequent lines, which talk about the never-ending noise and suffocation that the betrayal causes. The lines "Its hard to breathe when you're on my neck, This pain as deep as my regret" depict the severity of the emotional trauma that one goes through.

The singer feels a sense of emptiness and apathy as a result of the betrayal, and the line "I've never felt such apathy" serves to emphasize this point. The singer is physically and emotionally broken and pleads to be let go with the line "I'm on my knees, just let me bleed." The lines, "We empty ourselves, So we feel nothing" suggest that the singer has resigned themselves to feel nothing and become emotionally numb.

As the song progresses, the singer takes a more aggressive stance towards the betrayer. The figures of speech in the lines "Quit stealing the colour from my dreams, We're splitting at the seams," mirror the damage done to the singer's emotional state. The lines "I'll clean you out just like its spring, Remember don't come back again" implies the singer's intention to cut all ties with the betrayer and move forward. The singer finally expresses their resilience with the lines, "Here I lay my lungs still heaving, Undefeated, heart still beating," signifying hope and the will to keep going even in the face of betrayal.

My man, you left some stuff out.

1. A nautical mile is about 2000 yards or 6000 feet.

2. A "Knot" is a measurement of speed, was based on the 2000 yard/6000ft nautical mile.

3. How a "knot" came to be a measurement of speed.

4. Understanding dead reckoning (Time/Speed/Distance).

@Troy I am very sure that all countries un the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) have now metric.
It is not a matter of size.

Just take the roads. Every new road sign build in the next 15 years will have both, miles and kilometer and after this for the next 15 years the kilometer will be big and the miles are small.
And after this 30 years every new sign is just with kilometer.
I would think is 30 years every sign got old and has to be renewed.

That is qwhy I told, it took several decades.

And you use metric all the time.
On the bottles of Coke and Pepsi, you have litres. Only milk is sold in Gallons.

Every lens of a camera has metric numbers. And all people that cross the border to Canada or Mexico already got used to metric.
And even your money is metric from the beginning, at a time in Great Britain they had a shilling six pence.

What makes nautical miles even more useful is when you're on the water and using a navigation chart, the vertical edges of the chart have the minutes of latitude. You use a 2-arm compass (not a magnetic compass) and spread the arms until one point is one your location and the other is on the destination. You then simply place the points on the vertical edge of the chart and count the minutes of latitude and that's your distance in nautical miles.

I have been sailing boats since I was a child. I still remember when I first understood how nautical miles work, and how useful it is as a unit of measure. I learned to navigate on paper charts, and I still prefer to do so, rather than using a GPS plotter. It gives me a kind of situational awareness that I can't get from a little led display.
The relationship between distance, time and speed is easy to calculate, and super well adapted for a sailing vessels that move in the ranges of 0-10 knots
