It's the copper wire from the light switch going to the lights. When they turn off the lights that wire ends up acting as an antenna. They need to replace the light switch and bolt it down well. Could also try ferrite-cores placed on the wire to break up the signal.

The station radio engineers know what's up and certainly don't want to pay for it. Even as a HAM, you are responsible for your signals but only to a certain extent, beyond that...🤷♂️ Those transmitters are probably driving at 500 kilowatts at least...at that power, you don't need an amplifier to drive your receiver...at a local HAM fest we built old school crystal sets...which is basically what they have in their wall...a crystal set the contractor never intended to build...that were very audible without any amplifier...as long as the transmitter was close by. the structure of the wall combined with the switch box are perfect for the job. Ever see inside a really old radio? Same with old school telephones too...its all about how you shape the horn. And fixing this ain't gonna be cheap.

Clearly you think I'm unreasonable. Clearly I think you don't know half of what I'm talking about, but that doesn't stop you from believing you have all the answers... except for a possible answer to the problem.

@Jim K you face unknown music coming from walls everyday? That other contractors havent been able to resolve? Where they suggest its pipes doing everything I claimed, which makes less sense.
I do various things, mostly technology related. I'm the guy they call when everyone else cant figure it out. While my terms havent been perfectly precise, the underlining theory is possible under the right circumstances.
I sure could be wrong, but I'm willing to bet if the replace the switch they'll be in better shape. It's very possible other relevant details were not included in the broadcast that would change my proposed solution. But I'm working with what's provided.
Now if you want to continue to focus on how ribbon cable is commonly used in house lighting (its not), or how it couldn't be used to make a crystal radio (it can) please continue down the wrong path.

Something is acting like a diode and rectifying the AM signal from the station, is all. A bad electrical connection can do that if there is oxide on the connection. Aluminum wiring is likely worse for that. Just tighten all the connections and make sure there are no ground loops. People have even picked up AM stations with their teeth fillings.

This happened to me on Manzanita coast for a station in Tillamook. I called and told them off. Accused them of talking wild hyperactive crazed crap and obnoxious music all night. I moved to another room and it was the same but only at night and that station didn't come in at all, nor did I own a radio or T.V. Gave me a terrible insomnia all summer. I know for a fact there's a spring under that home and I was sleeping on the concrete basement. A huge cave with a spring in it too.
