See Me
Nazareth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Where is the rhyme, where is the reason
Who stands to judge me in this way
Some call it choice, some call it treason
Why find me guilty on this day

Stay home and watch it on T.V.
Stay home and watch it on T.V.
See you - See me

Now is the time, now is the season
When we should have something to say
You keep your faith, I'll keep my freedom
Why should we listen anyway

Stay home and watch it on T.V
Stay home and watch it on T.V
See you - See me

How is there no way of pleasing
And who has the answer of the day
When will they stop all of the squeezing
Why should we play the game their way

Stay home and watch it on T.V
Stay home and watch it on T.V
See you - See me
Stay home and watch it on T.V

Stay home and watch it on T.V
See you - See me

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Nazareth's "See You See Me" seem to express disbelief and confusion about the judgment that the singer is receiving. They question the rationale behind their being found guilty, despite the different opinions surrounding the matter that they both have a choice and people may perceive it as an act of treason. The lyrics express the singer's frustration with the fact that they are being judged without rhyme or reason by some unknown third party. The chorus tells the listener to stay at home and watch the events unfold on television.

The song then takes a more political turn, as the chorus repeats the idea that it's better to watch everything from home, as opposed to going out and engaging in the outside world. The bridge of the song encapsulates the lyrics' underlying meaning - the singer is tired of trying to please everyone and wishes to live life on their own terms instead of conforming to society's expectations.

One could interpret the "See You See Me" chorus as a metaphor for the invasion of privacy in modern society—the idea that through watching someone on television, they're essentially seeing into their lives. Nazareth may be implying that all of us are being watched and judged by society, even if we're not directly in the public eye.

"Rosary is the only way to go" Ah! The secret to surviving 50 years in Rock! Love the laid back style, and that voice is still magic!!

@darren3837

Dan's of of the few that can somehow effortlessly produce those killer vocals just like the late great Roy Orbison. What a great voice and still so strong and virtually unchanged over the 40+ years I've been listening to Nazareth.... and just love this song as well. Keep it going boys...... Cheers.
