smdm, or santa maria del mar, was inspired by a church in barcelona's Barri Gotic, or gothic quarter. While much smaller and less grand than barcelona's flagship, la sagrada familia, Near The Parenthesis found inspiration in the darkness of its interiors. The piece was actually resurrected from a sketch originally records 7-8 years prior, but never finished.
