Their initial success was with the song "Come sempre", from the album "Negramaro" recorded in 2003. It was chosen by RAI (the Italian national television) as the soundtrack for its 50th anniversary advertisement.
They debuted in Sanremo's Festival in the young artists section with the hit "Mentre tutto scorre". This song was subsequently chosen as the title track for the movie "La febbre" by Alessandro D'Alatri featuring Fabio Volo. Another eight songs from Negrmaro are on this soundtrack.
In the summer of 2005 they won the 'Best Newcomer' award in Festivalbar with their new single "Estate". With this song they hit the top of the Italian charts and then went on to win "Best Italian Band" in the MTV Music Awards.

Negramaro Lyrics

non senti più dolore?
ma quel che non sopporto
e’ questo tuo silenzio !
mortifica il mio orgoglio,
scendi in basso al mio livello,
picchia forte sui miei denti,
forse non hai capito.
se vuoi te lo ripeto:
proprio non lo sopporto
questo tuo silenzio !
rinuncia al tuo controllo,
grida forte il tuo disgusto,
spargi tanto sale
sulle mie ferite aperte.
costringimi a implorarti,
ridi delle mie paure,
spingi fino in fondo
nel mio cuore il tuo coltello
The lyrics of Negramaro's song "Gommapiuma" are about the pain and frustration of a protagonist who is dealing with the aftermath of a failed relationship. The singer is hurt and upset that their ex-partner is not showing any sign of resentment or pain, and is instead maintaining a cold silence. The singer's pride is wounded, and they feel as though their ex-partner is looking down on them by not even acknowledging the hurt they have caused.
The singer is driven to desperate measures, feeling as though they need to be on the same level as their ex-partner, even if it means stooping low. They are so consumed by their anger and pain that they want their ex-partner to acknowledge it and share in their misery. They want their ex-partner to lose control and lash out at them, to validate their feelings of hurt and anger.
The lyrics are a raw and emotional exploration of the complex dynamics that exist between two people after a break-up. The singer is trying to come to terms with their own feelings of hurt and rejection, while also trying to understand the motivations of their ex-partner. Ultimately, the song is a powerful expression of the intense emotions that arise after the end of a relationship.
