I Have But One Heart
Neil Richardson and His Orchestra Lyrics

This heart I bring you
I have but one heart
To share with you
I have but one dream
That I can cling to
You are the one dreamI pray comes true
My darling until I saw you
I never felt this way
And nobody else before you
Ever has heard me say
You are my one love
My life I live for you
I have but one heart
To give to you
You are my one love
My life I live for you
I have but one heart
To give to you
“I Have But One Heart” is a poignant exploration of love's singularity and depth. The opening lines set the tone by emphasizing the singular nature of both heart and love. By repeating the phrase “I have but one heart,” the singer expresses devotion and exclusivity. This heart is not just a metaphor for emotional capacity but represents a profound commitment to another person. The repetition of the phrase signifies a deep emotional resonance, stressing that this feeling is not diluted, but rather concentrated in one individual. It underlines the idea that the singer’s emotions are fully invested in this relationship, reflecting an ideal of romantic love that is both passionate and unwavering.
The next stanza delves into the theme of dreaming, linking the notion of love with aspiration. Here, the singer conveys that the only dream worth holding onto is the dream of being with the beloved. This connection between love and dreams suggests that the beloved embodies all that the singer desires in life. When the singer states, “You are the one dream I pray comes true,” it reveals a sense of hopefulness and longing, amplifying the emotional weight carried within the narrative. The beloved is seen not merely as a partner but as the fulfillment of the singer's aspirations, showcasing the intertwining of love and purpose.
As the lyrics progress, a moment of revelation occurs where the singer reflects on their feelings prior to meeting the beloved. When they state, "My darling until I saw you / I never felt this way," there is an acknowledgment of a transformative experience brought on by love. This change is significant—it highlights how the beloved has awakened emotions that were previously dormant. The contrast between past and present emphasizes the uniqueness of this love; it is not just romantic, but also groundbreaking and life-altering. By stating that “nobody else before you / Ever has heard me say,” the singer reinforces the idea that the emotions they are expressing are rooted in a rare and extraordinary connection.
The concluding lines figuratively crown the beloved as the centerpiece of the singer's existence. This repetition of phrases—“You are my one love” and “I have but one heart”—encapsulates the essence of the song, portraying a strong commitment to the beloved. It presents a powerful declaration that life’s purpose is intertwined with love, manifesting a devotion that seems almost sacred. The imagery of giving one’s heart speaks to vulnerability and trust, but also to the beauty of surrendering oneself completely in love. The continual affirmation of having only one heart devoted to another implies that true love is not splintered or shared; it is an all-consuming passion that thrives on mutual devotion and understanding. Ultimately, the song captures a timeless sentiment about love’s ability to transform, fulfill, and define one’s existence.

Lovin' you is easy cause you're beautiful
Makin' love with you is all i wanna do

And everything that I do is out of lovin' you

Yes, at the age of 31 Minnie Ripperton died of metastatic breast cancer. Unfortunately, back then breast health was not widely discussed and Dr ignored black peoples medical concerns . I’m white and I know this.

As an opera singer myself, it is damn hard to hit those high notes softly and quietly. It takes serious skill and practice. She is phenomenal.
@MeMe-ht2hd
I was thinking the same. LIKE what made her discover she could do this and then thought 😏 to put in place as she did for this song? Quite a beautiful song 🎵 ❤
