Do You Remember?
Neil Sedaka Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you remember
Picnics in the park?
Do you remember
Dancing in the dark?

Do you remember
Lying in the sand?
All these special moments
We had in wonderland

If I could take these precious moments
Put 'em in a box
If I could feel these times once more
I'd turn back the clock

Wouldn't it be wonderful
The way that things were then?
I would like to turn back time
Live it all again

Do you remember
Stealing that first kiss?
Do you remember
Falling in love like this?

Time goes by so swiftly
Time goes by so fast
I want to have these good times
I want our love to last

Do you remember
The meaning of romance?
Do you remember
When we took the chance?

Wouldn't it be wonderful
Not to think of sorrow
I want all my yesterdays
To be my bright tomorrows

If I could take these precious moments
Put them in a box
If I could feel these times once more
I'd turn back the clock

Wouldn't it be wonderful
The way that things were then?
I would like to turn back time
Live it all again

I would like to turn back time
Live it all again
I would like to turn back time
Live it all again

Overall Meaning

The song "Do You Remember?" by Neil Sedaka is a nostalgic ballad about looking back on past memories, particularly those of young love. The lyrics evoke a sense of longing and a desire to relive those moments, to go back in time and experience them again. The opening lines paint a picture of carefree, happy times spent in the park, dancing in the dark, and lying on the beach. The chorus expresses a wish to turn back the clock, to live those moments once more, and to hold onto the love that was shared.

The second verse touches on the first kiss and the excitement of falling in love. The bridge adds an element of wistfulness, wondering about "yesterdays" and hoping that they can become bright "tomorrows." The song ends with the repeating "Li lilo" lines, which are reportedly nonsense syllables meant to evoke the sound of a lullaby.

Overall, the lyrics suggest a sense of loss for something that can never be regained. Despite the desire to go back and relive those memories, the reality is that time and life cannot be rewound. The song's enduring popularity speaks to its universal themes of love, nostalgia, and the passage of time.

Larga vida amigo.

@santorio55

I have this CD.  I'm still amazed to think that he still sounded great at 71.
