Sedaka wrote his 1959 hit "Oh! Carol" about his then-girlfriend, Carol Klein, later to become Carole King. In 1963, King released a humorous answer entitled "Oh Neil".
The Laughter In the Rain Songfacts says Sedaka's hits dried up when The Beatles arrived, but then he teamed up with the lyricist Philip Cody and had a a number 1 hit with "Laughter In The Rain." It re-ignited Sedaka's career and he had 6 more Top-40 hits in America by 1977.
Sedaka's voice is in the tenor range.

Rain in the chapel
Chair on a people
They're gonna be sunshine
Rainy day bells
Play by the raindrops
Sing on a message
Don't be afraid all the son
Somewhere the sun is shining
Through a silver lighten, wait and see
Save the rainy day bells
Hey little girl
Come to your window
And hear the music
Sing you a sweet song
Don't nat to the rain
Make you unhappy
And just a moment
They're gonna be walking in the sun
Little be crowd will cheer now
They gonna smile and clear up
When day he
Goes rainy day bells
Hey little girl
Come to your window
And hear the music
Sing you a sweet song
Don't nat to the rain
Make you unhappy
And just a moment
They're gonna be walking in the sun
Little be crowd will cheer now
They gonna smile and clear up
When day he
Goes rainy day bells
The lyrics in Neil Sedaka's "Rainy Day Bells" speak about hope and perseverance during difficult times. The song begins with the image of rain falling on a chapel, a solemn and melancholic image. However, the lyrics continue with the idea that despite the rain, there will be sunshine. The repeating phrase "They're gonna be walking in the sun" emphasizes this message of hope, encouraging listeners to look forward to better days.
The song also speaks to the power of music to uplift and inspire. The lines "Rainy day bells / Play by the raindrops / Sing on a message" suggest that music can help take one's mind off of rainy, unpleasant times and provide a message of hope. The line "Hey little girl / Come to your window / And hear the music / Sing you a sweet song" reinforces the idea that music can bring joy into one's life even during difficult times.
Overall, "Rainy Day Bells" is an optimistic song that encourages listeners to persevere through rainy days and look forward to better times.

I heard this song on Satellite Radio- 50s on 5 a few weeks ago. I didn't remember it from the 60s or 70s but I love it. It is so upbeat! The melody is just wonderful and easy to sing along with. It just puts me in a good mood. What a great song! Too bad there is NOTHING today that even comes close to good music like this.

Neil had the nak for laying track over track over track to get that "wall of sound " that was all his ,,, a master in his own right and great singer and writer ,i think all the "voices' are his ,which made all his songs one of the best sounds ever put to records ---thanks

I love this demo version of Mr. Sedaka's song--a big hit for the Globetrotters (think the Cadillacs did it first, but I can't find the recording anywhere). A great example of Neil Sedaka's pop writing genius. Some brilliant songwriters came out of Brooklyn in the late 50s/early 60s, and he's at the forefront. Love this gem.

The lead singer of the Cadillacs sang lead for the Globetrotters on their 1970 album. "Rainy Day Bells" was a regional hit and I think it was only played as an album cut.

@ausfan100 Okay, thanks. I wasn't sure.

The Cadillacs never recorded this song.

I've heard the Globetrotters version but never realized this was written by Neil Sedaka and Howie Greenfield. Another song from the Brill Building mine of hits.
