Sedaka wrote his 1959 hit "Oh! Carol" about his then-girlfriend, Carol Klein, later to become Carole King. In 1963, King released a humorous answer entitled "Oh Neil".
The Laughter In the Rain Songfacts says Sedaka's hits dried up when The Beatles arrived, but then he teamed up with the lyricist Philip Cody and had a a number 1 hit with "Laughter In The Rain." It re-ignited Sedaka's career and he had 6 more Top-40 hits in America by 1977.
Sedaka's voice is in the tenor range.
Time Waits for No One

And nobody gets away
There's no exception
We all got our dues to pay
And it's as sure as all the stars up above
If we don't hurry up we're gonna lose our love
And we're running out of time
Some people blow it
They wake up when it's too late
Don't say tomorrow
The clock on the won't wait
It won't slow down,
it just keeps movin' so fast
While you talk about the future,
it's becomin' the past
Time waits for no one
And we're running out of time
Running, running, running, running
So take me now and love me right on the spot
We gotta make the most of every minute we've got
Time waits for no one
And we're running out of time
Time waits for no one...
In Neil Sedaka's song "Time Waits for No One," the lyrics talk about the inevitability and unrelenting nature of time. The song begins with the line "Time waits for no one, and nobody gets away" which sets the tone for the rest of the song. Sedaka sings about how we all have our own dues to pay, and that there are no exceptions to the rules of time. In the second verse, he talks about how some people "blow it" by not taking advantage of the time they have and end up regretting it when it's too late.
The chorus of the song is very repetitive, and emphasizes the urgency of time. The line "we're running out of time" is repeated multiple times, which reinforces the idea that we need to make the most of the time we have. The song's message is clear - time waits for nobody, and it's up to us to make the most of the time we have. The line "take me now and love me right on the spot" is a call to action, emphasizing the importance of living in the present moment and not wasting any time.
Overall, Sedaka's "Time Waits for No One" is a timeless song that encourages listeners to live in the present and take advantage of the time they have. Its message is even more relevant today, in a world where time seems to be a scarce resource.

I'd be interested to know who's playing on this (such as drums) with Neil's piano and overdubbed vocals. I do know that around this time period, Neil was recording with 10cc (who had a hit with "I'm Not In Love" a few years later).
Demos are interesting because they show the songwriter's rough draft of the song. By comparing these first attempts with the completed recording, you can get a glimpse of the whole process.of how the song was developed and what the writer initially envisioned for the song's completion.
And of course, it's classic Neil!!!
