Southern Man
Neil Young Lyrics
Southern man, better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man
I saw cotton and I saw black
Tall white mansions and little shacks
Southern man, when will you pay them back?
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
Southern man, better keep your head
Don't forget what your good book said
Southern change gonna come at last
Now your crosses are burning fast
Southern man
Lily Belle, your hair is golden brown
I've seen your black man comin' round
Swear by God I'm gonna cut him down
I heard screamin' and bullwhips cracking
How long? How long? How?

Southern Man is a song by Neil Young from his 1970 album After the Gold Rush.
The song's lyrics focus mainly on racism against blacks in the southern states of the USA.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's song 'Sweet Home Alabama' makes reference to this song (and 'Alabama' from Neil Young's later album Harvest) with the lyrics:
Well, I heard Mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ol' Neil put her down.
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
a southern man don't need him around anyhow.

Neil’s masterpiece. The rhythm, his guitar solo in the middle, the urgency of the piano, the words that unfortunately still ring true today. This song is 50 years old as of this year, and what he discusses herein is timeless. Everyone should listen to this song and pay close attention, because the more things allegedly change, the more they don’t stay the same... they’ve gotten even worse.

This is just a “Bad Ass” song thru and thru. It pulsates anger in a great way. The guitar playing is outstanding. Neil Young with Crazy Horse is a match made in Heaven. The dude is so talented it is scary.

Are you a Jizz Gulper?

In your opinion. I don't consider him a "Bad Ass." How old are you and what is your line of business? Are you a non-English speaker? Neil Younger is a sub-par musician and musical creator all-around. He is also a narcissistic infantile douche bag.

Lynrd was against him...it’s. Rumor. Actually, Lynrd respected him and wore his Tshirt in a concert. Rumors fly around.

Pianos are essentially percussive. Nice to treat it this way in this song.
