Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 15 albums, "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" from 2012 being the latest.
The band recorded a concept album entitled "Greendale" (2003) that told the story using metaphors of murder and crime to represent the destruction of a small town community. The final song "Be The Rain" is one of Neil's classic epics, pleading for the world to be like the rain -- recycle and conserve to save our planet.
Discography: the studio albums "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), "Zuma" (1975), "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979), "Re-ac-tor" (1981), "Life" (1987), "Ragged Glory" (1990), "Sleeps With Angels" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (1996), Greendale (2003), "Americana" (2012), Psychedelic Pill (2012) and live albums "Live Rust" (1979), "Weld" (1991), "Year of the Horse" (1997), "Live at the Fillmore East" (2006)
Cinnamon Girl
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I could be happy the rest of my life
With a cinnamon girl
A dreamer of pictures, I run in the night
You see us together, chasing the moonlight
My cinnamon girl
The drummer relaxes and waits between shows
For his cinnamon girl
A dreamer of pictures, I run in the night
You see us together, chasing the moonlight
My cinnamon girl
Pa send me money now
I'm gonna make it somehow
I need another chance
You see, your baby loves to dance
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Woo
The song "Cinnamon Girl" by Neil Young is a love song from the perspective of a man who is so enamored with a woman he calls his "cinnamon girl" that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, expressing the singer's desire to be with this woman. He then goes on to describe his dreamlike state as a "dreamer of pictures" who runs in the night. The imagery suggests a never-ending pursuit of something that is both elusive and intoxicating.
The singer then shifts to a description of the band he is part of, with ten silver saxes and a bow-wielding bass, and a drummer who waits for his cinnamon girl between shows. The repeated references to chasing the moonlight and the open-ended nature of the lyrics suggest a sense of longing and unfulfilled desire.
The song ends with the singer asking for money from his father so that he can pursue his dreams and dance with his cinnamon girl. The repeated "yeah, yeah, yeah" at the end underscores the upbeat and joyful tone of the song, despite the underlying themes of longing and unfulfilled desire.
Overall, the song is a testament to the power of obsessive love, the pursuit of dreams, and the beauty of desire, even if it remains unfulfilled.
