Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 15 albums, "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" from 2012 being the latest.
The band recorded a concept album entitled "Greendale" (2003) that told the story using metaphors of murder and crime to represent the destruction of a small town community. The final song "Be The Rain" is one of Neil's classic epics, pleading for the world to be like the rain -- recycle and conserve to save our planet.
Discography: the studio albums "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), "Zuma" (1975), "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979), "Re-ac-tor" (1981), "Life" (1987), "Ragged Glory" (1990), "Sleeps With Angels" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (1996), Greendale (2003), "Americana" (2012), Psychedelic Pill (2012) and live albums "Live Rust" (1979), "Weld" (1991), "Year of the Horse" (1997), "Live at the Fillmore East" (2006)
Double E
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Living on the Double E
In the sunshine of her life.
There's a really young filly
But Mom and Daddy won't let her leave.
Mom and Poppa won't let her go.
She breaks out on her own.
She's hot enough to burn the house down.
Mom and Poppa don't know.
When Edith and Earl renamed the Double E
They nearly made history.
The locals rose up and some of them were mad as hell
'Cause it used to be the Double L.
Change comes slow in the country.
When you're new there's a lot of distrust.
Years fly by uneventful.
Memories turn to dust.
Meanwhile Granny has got her bright colors on
And the sunshine in her eye.
Cruising by the bars and honkey tonks
Where she met grandpa
And caught that young man's eye.
Dusty white Eldorado,
Cruising through the trees.
Slipping through the shadows
Of what used to be.
Back in the day,
Living in the summer of love.
Living in the summer of love.
Grandma's okay,
But not the same since Grandpa's gone.
She's living in the summer of love.
Back in the day,
Living in the summer of love.
Living in the summer of love.
Back in the day,
Living in the summer of love.
Living in the summer of love.
The lyrics of Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Double E" tell the story of a family living on a ranch called the Double E in the country. There is a young girl on the ranch who wants to break free, but her parents won't let her. However, when she goes out dancing, she lets loose and becomes hot enough to "burn the house down." The song then describes the slow pace of life in the country, with memories eventually fading away. The grandmother of the family, who has lost her husband, still cruises by the bars and honky tonks where she met him and remembers the "summer of love."
