Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 15 albums, "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" from 2012 being the latest.
The band recorded a concept album entitled "Greendale" (2003) that told the story using metaphors of murder and crime to represent the destruction of a small town community. The final song "Be The Rain" is one of Neil's classic epics, pleading for the world to be like the rain -- recycle and conserve to save our planet.
Discography: the studio albums "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), "Zuma" (1975), "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979), "Re-ac-tor" (1981), "Life" (1987), "Ragged Glory" (1990), "Sleeps With Angels" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (1996), Greendale (2003), "Americana" (2012), Psychedelic Pill (2012) and live albums "Live Rust" (1979), "Weld" (1991), "Year of the Horse" (1997), "Live at the Fillmore East" (2006)
Goin' Home
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics

Making his last stand
With the Indians all around you
And his gun in his hand
Such a wind was blowing that day
Through the battleground
I could feel it in my hair
Weaving through the buildings
Cutting though the streets
Slicing through the culture
Piling on the weeks
Going home, I'm going home
Going home, I'm going home
Going home
"Dropping in on you my friend
Is just like old times"
Said the fool who signed the paper
To assorted slimes
It's hard to get blood from a stone
But for you I'll give it a try
To provide your accommodations
And leave you satisfied
You'd think it was easy
To give your life away
To not have to live up to
The promises you made
Going home, I'm going home
Going home, I'm going home
Going home
Elusively she cut the phone
Moved from cell to cell
Really looking remarkable
And obviously doing well
Made a turn on a wooden bridge
Into the battleground
With a thousand warriors on the ridge
She tried to turn her radio down
Battle drums were pounding
All around her car
She saw her clothes were changing
Into sky and stars
I'm going home, I'm going home
Going home, I'm going home
Going home, I'm going home
Going home, I'm going home
Going home, I'm going home
Going home, I'm going home
The lyrics of Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Goin' Home" take listeners on a journey full of historical and cultural allusions. The opening line refers to the Little Bighorn Battle that took place in 1876 in which American Lieutenant Colonel Custer and his troops fought against the combined forces of Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes. The song, then, jumps to a present-day scenario where the singer is returning to his hometown amidst various cultural influences. The reference to wind creates a sense of an impending storm, while the imagery of weaving through buildings and streets signifies the maze-like nature of life itself.
The song then portrays a character who is trying to do some business with various slimy individuals, a reminder that the vicious cycle of greed and corruption still exists in the world. The line "It's hard to get blood from a stone, but for you, I'll give it a try" refers to the singer's willingness to try and meet the demands of the greedy people he has to deal with, even though it is a challenging task. Neil Young's ability to convey a deep message through simple lines is evident in the chorus that keeps repeating "Going home, I'm going home." It reflects the idea of a person trying to make his way through the maze of life towards some form of stability.
The lyrics, though open to interpretation, shed a light on historical events and cultural influences. The song is a testimony to Young's songwriting abilities, which has been admired by fans and critics alike. The vivid imagery and the metaphors used create an overall haunting yet soothing experience for the listeners.
