Music A
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Have you ever been lost
Have you ever been found out
Have you ever felt all alone
At the end of the day
Yeah I'm talkin' bout gettin' down
Take it easy - there's no one around
Just a mirror and you and me
And the TV sky

I was walkin down main street
Not the sidewalk but main street
Dodgin' traffic with flyin' feet
That's how good I felt
Took a spin in the laundromat
Played a game in the music arcade
Kept winnin' while the band played
That's how good I felt

(chorus)

Have you ever been singled out
By a hungry man
You're listening to the radio
He's washin' your window
When you look in those vacant eyes
How does it harmonize
With the things that you do?
That's how good I felt

(chorus)

There's a comet in the sky tonight
Makes me feel like I'm alright
I'm movin' prety fast
For my size
I really didn' mean to stay

As long as I have
So I'll be movin' on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Neil Young & Crazy Horse's "Music A" speak to the feeling of being lost, alone, and trying to find yourself. The opening verse asks the listener if they have ever experienced being lost or alone, and then encourages them to take it easy and enjoy their own company. The second verse describes the joy of being carefree and having fun, even in mundane places like a laundromat or music arcade. The chorus reinforces the theme of finding happiness and being content with oneself, even when faced with challenges like a hungry man or vacant eyes.

The final verse takes a cosmic turn, with a reference to a comet in the sky making the singer feel "alright." There's a sense of movement and change in this verse, with the singer acknowledging that they didn't mean to stay in one place for so long and need to keep moving. Overall, the song seems to be about finding happiness and contentment within oneself, whether through enjoying simple pleasures or connecting with something greater than oneself.

Yes!!! I was just thinking:
💭"I bet it's cold AF in the Winter!"❄️🏔️(with all those wide open slats, in his barn!)

Yes, his ranch is incredible! It keeps growing, too👍🤗. He buys more and more land, to conserve it.

I LOVE that he says, "I walk through the forest, and the melody comes to me."
"I don't TRY...When one tries, you've lost it."

He records the melody on his flip phone, then, writes the lyrics, later.

He's, absolutely, INCREDIBLE!😊🎸🔥

@@paulwalker2777 He's a total "Feeler."

I've LOVED HIM, since the beginning! He's THE BEST! 🎸🔥

I'm an astrologer in Gainesville, Florida.

Neil Young isn't a fascist😆.

Shit! He used to be a Republican! Neil Young and, "The Blue Notes."
It's his ONLY music I'm not very fond of...Raygun got him, in the 80s. Thank Goddess, he got his Soul back.👍👍🤗

I love every second of this. It just makes me feel better every time I watch and listen to it. I have the vinyl and the Cd. I am in 70’s, a retired teacher after 40 plus years in the trenches and learned a few things about music and picked up the guitar and started recording my stuff a couple years ago. I don’t give a shit about doing anything more than creating and living now with what I have left in life. These guys are great models to emulate for that very purpose.

This warm hearted film, down to earth, made my day! Am sitting here with a brain tumor and nothing else to do. Can’t play on my own at the moment but these old fellas sure can! Feeling such gratitude to Daryl for the way she captured the mood.
