Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 15 albums, "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" from 2012 being the latest.
The band recorded a concept album entitled "Greendale" (2003) that told the story using metaphors of murder and crime to represent the destruction of a small town community. The final song "Be The Rain" is one of Neil's classic epics, pleading for the world to be like the rain -- recycle and conserve to save our planet.
Discography: the studio albums "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), "Zuma" (1975), "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979), "Re-ac-tor" (1981), "Life" (1987), "Ragged Glory" (1990), "Sleeps With Angels" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (1996), Greendale (2003), "Americana" (2012), Psychedelic Pill (2012) and live albums "Live Rust" (1979), "Weld" (1991), "Year of the Horse" (1997), "Live at the Fillmore East" (2006)
Standing In The Light Of Love
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why have you put me on the spot?
I don't know how you feel
But for me it's getting hard
Swimming in the deep blue sea
Marching in the big parade
All I need is a little shade
Standing in the light of love
Doesn't matter who you are
Or who you're not
All it takes is a little love
To make a handout worth a lot
Swimming in the deep blue sea
Marching in the big parade
All I need is a little shade
Standing in the light of your love
Standing in the light of love
Drowning in the deep blue sea
Drudging in the long parade
All I need is a little shade
Standing in the light of your love
Standing in the light of love
Standing in the light of love
Standing in the light of love
The lyrics of Neil Young & Crazy Horse's song "Standing In The Light Of Love" convey the idea of feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable, yet finding comfort and security in the embrace of someone's love. The singer is hesitant to open up and get personal, but they are finding it increasingly difficult to cope on their own. They compare their struggles to swimming in the deep blue sea and marching in the big parade, but they find solace in the shade of their lover's love. The message of the song is that love can provide shelter and protection, even in the most difficult of times.
The repetition of the phrase "Standing in the light of love" reinforces the idea that love is not only a feeling, but an active choice to stand in its warmth and light. The use of aquatic imagery ("swimming in the deep blue sea," "drowning in the deep blue sea") creates a sense of being at the mercy of something vast and powerful. This is contrasted with the idea of standing in the light of love, which provides a sense of stability and grounding.
Overall, "Standing In The Light Of Love" is a song about finding comfort and hope in the midst of struggle. It is a reminder that love can be a source of strength and protection, even in the most challenging of circumstances.

Hearing Neil Young & Crazy Horse is to be in Valhalla. Saw them do this song in Berlin in 2001. Unbelievable song. Lyrics worthy of Leonard Cohen.
