Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 15 albums, "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" from 2012 being the latest.
The band recorded a concept album entitled "Greendale" (2003) that told the story using metaphors of murder and crime to represent the destruction of a small town community. The final song "Be The Rain" is one of Neil's classic epics, pleading for the world to be like the rain -- recycle and conserve to save our planet.
Discography: the studio albums "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), "Zuma" (1975), "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979), "Re-ac-tor" (1981), "Life" (1987), "Ragged Glory" (1990), "Sleeps With Angels" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (1996), Greendale (2003), "Americana" (2012), Psychedelic Pill (2012) and live albums "Live Rust" (1979), "Weld" (1991), "Year of the Horse" (1997), "Live at the Fillmore East" (2006)
Stupid Girl
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You really got a lot to learn
Start living again
Forget about remembering
You're such a stupid girl
You're such a beautiful fish
Floppin' on the summer sand
When another one is close at hand
You're such a stupid girl
You're such a stupid girl
Na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na
Oh
Na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na
I saw you in Mercedes Benz
Practicing self-defense
You got it pretty good I guess
I couldn't see your eyes
You're really stupid, girl
You're such a stupid girl
You're such a stupid girl
The lyrics to Neil Young & Crazy Horse's song "Stupid Girl" tell the story of a woman who is naive and foolish, and needs to learn how to live again by forgetting her past. The metaphor of a fish flopping on sand is used to describe her floundering and inability to catch onto the opportunities before her. The repetition of the assertion that she is a "stupid girl" reinforces the singer's contempt for her behavior and attitude.
The second verse describes seeing the woman in a Mercedes Benz, apparently practicing self-defense. The singer acknowledges that she has it good in some respects, but he cannot see into her mind or truly understand what drives her decisions. The final repetition of the phrase "you're such a stupid girl" is delivered with even more biting scorn, further emphasizing the condemnation of this character.
Overall, the song's lyrics illuminate the way in which some men view women as being foolish and vulnerable, but the repetition of the phrase also serves to underline the limitations of the singer's perspective, which is one-dimensional and unsympathetic.
