Crazy Horse is best known for its long association with Young, despite having released five albums of its own over a 19-year span. It has been co-credited with Young as Neil Young and Crazy Horse on 15 albums, "Americana" and "Psychedelic Pill" from 2012 being the latest.
The band recorded a concept album entitled "Greendale" (2003) that told the story using metaphors of murder and crime to represent the destruction of a small town community. The final song "Be The Rain" is one of Neil's classic epics, pleading for the world to be like the rain -- recycle and conserve to save our planet.
Discography: the studio albums "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere" (1969), "Zuma" (1975), "Rust Never Sleeps" (1979), "Re-ac-tor" (1981), "Life" (1987), "Ragged Glory" (1990), "Sleeps With Angels" (1994), "Broken Arrow" (1996), Greendale (2003), "Americana" (2012), Psychedelic Pill (2012) and live albums "Live Rust" (1979), "Weld" (1991), "Year of the Horse" (1997), "Live at the Fillmore East" (2006)
Winterlong
Neil Young & Crazy Horse Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You seem to be where I belong.
It's all illusion anyway.
If things should ever turn out wrong
And all the love we have is gone,
It won't be easy on that day.
Through the dreamlight of your way
Is not so easy for me now.
Half the time has passed away
Things we thought of yesterday
Come back now, come back now.
Waiting to follow
Through the dreamlight of your way
Is not so easy for me now.
Half the time has passed away
Things we thought of yesterday
Come back now, come back now.
I waited for you Winterlong
You seem to be where I belong.
In Neil Young & Crazy Horse's song "Winterlong", the singer is expressing his longing for his lover or perhaps a muse to return to his life. He finds comfort in the cold, barren winter, where everything seems to be in hibernation, and he feels as though he belongs with the barrenness. He acknowledges that everything may be an illusion, but he has been waiting for this person for a long time, and it feels like they are meant to be together. He also acknowledges that things may not work out, but he is willing to endure the pain of losing their love.
The chorus repeats twice, with the singer admitting that waiting to follow this person through their journey is not an easy task, as half the time has already passed. But regardless of the challenges, he still waits for them, hoping that they will come back to him. The chorus is also a metaphorical representation of the singer's journey through life, waiting for the next step to follow, through the dream-like way of his journey.
"Winterlong" is a beautiful and poignant song that captures the feeling of longing for someone who may not be with us anymore. The lyrics are poetic and introspective, with an emotional depth that speaks to the heart. One can relate to the feeling of waiting for someone or something that seems almost out of reach, yet we still hold on to the hope that it will come back to us.

It looks like Winterlong is where I truly belong
It's all illusion anyway.
But in the end, everything is an illusion, anyway
If things should ever turn out wrong
If something goes terribly wrong someday
And all the love we have is gone,
And if we lose all the love we have shared so far
It won't be easy on that day.
That day will be really tough on us
Waiting to follow
I'm waiting to follow you
Through the dreamlight of your way
Through the path of your dreamy light
Is not so easy for me now.
But it's not easy for me now
Half the time has passed away
Half of the time we shared has already gone
Things we thought of yesterday
Things we thought of in the past
Come back now, come back now.
Are coming back to us now
I waited for you Winterlong
I was eagerly waiting for you, oh Winterlong
You seem to be where I belong.
It looks like Winterlong is where I truly belong
