She first gained fame with her trip hop-inspired debut album, Whoa, Nelly! (2000), which was a critical and commercial success that spawned two top-10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, "I'm Like a Bird" and "Turn Off the Light". The first of the two singles won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Furtado's introspective folk-heavy 2003 second album, Folklore, explored her Portuguese roots. Its singles received moderate success in Europe, but the album's underperformance compared to her debut was regarded as a sophomore slump.
Furtado's third album, Loose (2006), was a smash hit and became her bestselling album, with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide, also making it one of the bestselling albums of the 2000s. Considered a radical image reinvention, Furtado continued to explore her Portuguese heritage while leaning heavier into hip hop. The album spawned four successful number-one singles worldwide; "Promiscuous", "Maneater", "Say It Right" and "All Good Things (Come to an End)".
She released her first Spanish-language album, Mi Plan, in 2009, which won her a Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. In 2012, Furtado released her nostalgia-inspired fifth album The Spirit Indestructible. Furtado split with her management and went independent thereafter, releasing her indie-pop sixth album, The Ride, in 2017 under her own label Nelstar Entertainment.
She has won many awards throughout her career, including one Grammy Award from seven nominations, one Latin Grammy Award, ten Juno Awards, one BRIT Award, one Billboard Music Award, one MTV Europe Music Award, one World Music Award, and three Much Music Video Awards. Furtado has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame, and was awarded Commander of the Order of Prince Henry on February 28, 2014, by Aníbal Cavaco Silva, the then-President of Portugal.
Bucket List
Nelly Furtado Lyrics

Get your body to look like Hercules
Jump out an airplane with a parachute
Fly up and away on a hot air balloon
We don't know where it all ends
Some say it's almost over almost over
If this is it then baby why aren't I on your shoulder
In this lifetime
I want you to be mine
'Cause I took a long look at my bucket list
And I saw that at the bottom it said our first kiss and
Whoa I'm running out of time
Whoa I'm running out of time
Get on your boots and visit the North Pole
Try every sport until you score a goal
Follow the path of a butterfly
Go to Ground Zero and do nothing but cry
In this lifetime
I want you to be mine
'Cause I took a long look at my bucket list
And I saw that at the bottom it said our first kiss and
Whoa I'm running out of time
Whoa I'm running out of time
This is not a dare
Not some trick of a daredevil
I'd trade in my wildest dreams
For your forever
In this lifetime
I want you to be mine
'Cause I took a long look at my bucket list
And I saw that at the bottom it said our first kiss and
'Cause I took a long look at my bucket list
And I saw that at the bottom it said our first kiss and
Whoa I'm running out of time
Whoa I'm running out of time
Whoa I'm running out of time
Whoa I'm running out of time
Nelly Furtado's song "Bucket List" speaks to the fear of missing out on life's experiences, especially if there may be a limited amount of time available. The lyrics describe a list of activities that may seem daunting or impossible, including climbing mountains, swimming the seas, and jumping out of planes. The singer suggests that life may be fleeting and uncertain, and questions why she isn't sharing these experiences with someone else. The fear of missed opportunities is heightened by the realization that time may be running out, and that there are still things that she wants to do before it's too late.
The second verse of the song paints a picture of a person who wants to try everything once, including visiting the North Pole and experiencing the emotions of Ground Zero. This wanderlust is complicated by the fear that opportunities to experience these things may be limited. The singer acknowledges that the list is not a dare, but rather a reflection of the things that she most wants to do before time runs out. Ultimately, her "bucket list" ends with a simple request: a first kiss with someone special.
Overall, the lyrics of "Bucket List" capture the feeling of FOMO ("fear of missing out") that many people experience when considering the passage of time and the possibilities for unique life experiences. The song suggests that it is important to take risks, seize opportunities, and experience life to the fullest, especially when one may not have many chances left.
