She first gained fame with her trip hop-inspired debut album, Whoa, Nelly! (2000), which was a critical and commercial success that spawned two top-10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, "I'm Like a Bird" and "Turn Off the Light". The first of the two singles won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Furtado's introspective folk-heavy 2003 second album, Folklore, explored her Portuguese roots. Its singles received moderate success in Europe, but the album's underperformance compared to her debut was regarded as a sophomore slump.
Furtado's third album, Loose (2006), was a smash hit and became her bestselling album, with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide, also making it one of the bestselling albums of the 2000s. Considered a radical image reinvention, Furtado continued to explore her Portuguese heritage while leaning heavier into hip hop. The album spawned four successful number-one singles worldwide; "Promiscuous", "Maneater", "Say It Right" and "All Good Things (Come to an End)".
She released her first Spanish-language album, Mi Plan, in 2009, which won her a Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. In 2012, Furtado released her nostalgia-inspired fifth album The Spirit Indestructible. Furtado split with her management and went independent thereafter, releasing her indie-pop sixth album, The Ride, in 2017 under her own label Nelstar Entertainment.
She has won many awards throughout her career, including one Grammy Award from seven nominations, one Latin Grammy Award, ten Juno Awards, one BRIT Award, one Billboard Music Award, one MTV Europe Music Award, one World Music Award, and three Much Music Video Awards. Furtado has a star on Canada's Walk of Fame, and was awarded Commander of the Order of Prince Henry on February 28, 2014, by Aníbal Cavaco Silva, the then-President of Portugal.

Make the skin on the back of my neck turn cold
Need to feel, my bare feet on your road
I will never again walk alone
If you question my faith, I'll still believe
Putting earth in my heart out, put in bleed
This is brand new air that I'm breathing
Show me all of your miracles,
Pulling me inside your water
Oh, never felt something real before
I believe you know your miracles
Take me up, to the place that you live
Out there, you got some much more to give
I love that, you're not meant to wash it
But I'm loosing my sense of control
If you question my faith, I'll still believe
I need this air so desperately
So I can breathe
Show me all of your miracles,
Pulling me inside your water
Oh, never felt something real before
I believe you know your miracles
You're in my heart, in my mind,
In my body and soul
I'm feeling your power and I'm loosing all control
And I'm weightless, this space is divine
Divine, divine
Show me all of your miracles,
Pulling me inside your water
Oh, never felt something real before
I believe you know your miracles
I wanna feel all your miracles
In my mind, in my body and soul
I wanna feel all your miracles, oh, oh, oh, whoa
Miracles!
The lyrics of "Miracles" by Nelly Furtado are about the singer's faith in a higher power and the transformative effect it has on her life. The opening lines suggest a desire to be physically and emotionally connected to this power, as the singer talks about needing to feel her bare feet on "your" road. She goes on to say that even if her faith is questioned, she will still believe, as she feels the presence of this power in every aspect of her being. The chorus is a request to see and experience all of the amazing and transformative things this power can do ("show me all of your miracles"), with the singer acknowledging that she has never before felt something so real as what she believes in.
The song also touches on the idea of losing control and surrendering oneself to this power. The lines "I'm feeling your power and I'm losing all control" express a sense of being overwhelmed by the intensity of the experience, but also a willingness to embrace it fully. Throughout the song, the singer's tone is one of awe and reverence, as she sings about the profound impact that this power has on her.
Overall, "Miracles" is a moving exploration of faith and the transformative effect it can have on a person's life. It's a reminder that belief in something greater than oneself can be a source of strength, comfort, and inspiration.
