They are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the only family to reach number one record status in three successive generations (beginning with grandparents Ozzie and Harriet Nelson).
The band split with Geffen Records record label after 1995, but they have continued to produce and release albums independently under their label, Stone Canyon Records. However, they have yet to revisit the level of success they experienced during their 1990 debut. http://thenelsonbrothers.com

Love Me Today

Whose smile and laughter carried me through
Oh, the way that I felt when she looked at me that way
When I heard she was gone I had no one to hold
I wept as I felt my heart growin' cold
Like Poppa she taught me there's no time like today
...I hear her saying
Chorus:
Love me today, and let my strength be your own
Love me today, because tomorrow I'll be gone
When I feel it's time to go - I'll be on my way
So love me today
I remember a time back when
Poppa would laugh as I held his hand
And just one embrace would make my troubles pass
I thought those times would never end
The day that he left he smiled and he said,
I'll be home soon but Poppa never came back...
I hear him saying
Don't be afraid to say, "I love you"
Take the moment and make it last
‘Cause if you don't tell them you love them
You might not get a second chance
...So hear them saying
Chorus
....Love me today (Oh)
Nelson's song "Love Me Today" captures the importance of cherishing the people you love and holding onto the moments you have with them, as tomorrow is never promised. The song taps into memories of the past and the loved ones lost, as they serve as reminders to make the most of the present. Nelson starts with an introspection of his past, speaking of a girl he knew whose smile carried him through tough times. Her departure left him feeling empty, which made him realize the gravity of the fleeting nature of life. Along with his father's absence and his teachings of living in the moment, these experiences serve as a reminder to treasure the people in our lives and to love them deeply while they are still with us.
The song's chorus highlights the need to express our feelings and love to others while they are still here, to let them know how important they are, and strengthen the bond we share. The lyrics emphasize the message of living in the present moment and making every single one of them count. The verse "Don't be afraid to say, 'I love you,' Take the moment and make it last" encapsulates this message. The lyricist acknowledges that love is a continuously evolving experience; it is not enough to have felt it once or just appreciate love from afar, you must actively cherish it.

I lost my baby girl when she was 5 months old, the doctors told me she wouldn't live very long. This kind of became mine and my family's motto about her. We didn't know when her last day would be so we didn't take for granted the time we had with her. We loved her every day like it would be her last. When I heard this song just the other night I cried because it reminded me so much of her. It's a beautiful song.
