Wanting you
Nelson Eddy & Jeanette MacDonald Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And you are that someone
You know the truth of my story
You must believe what you see
I, too, may someday love someone
From somewhere there'll come one
One who will hear the same story
Wanting you, every day I am wanting you
Every night I am longing to
Hold you close to my eager breast
Wanting love, in that heaven I'm dreaming of
Makes that heaven seem far above
Any hope that I'll gain my quest
Dreams are vain, but I cling to the
Merest chance that you may hear me
Dreams are vain, for whenever I wake
I never find you near me
Wanting you, nothing else in this world will do
In this world you are all that I adore,
All I adore.
The song "Wanting You" by Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald is a beautiful expression of longing for love. The singer expresses their feelings of heartache for someone who they believe is the one they are meant to love. The singer tells the person they are addressing that they know the truth of their story and that they must believe what they see. They also express that they may someday love someone else and that person will hear the same story that the current addressee is telling them.
The overall theme of the song is the deep desire for love and the pain that comes with unrequited love. The singer's heart is aching for this person, and they describe the intensity and yearning they feel every day and night. The hope they have for fulfilling this love is presented in the metaphor of heaven, which seems far above any hope they may have to gain their quest. Despite the realization that their dreams may be in vain, the singer still clings to the chance that their love interest may hear them.
Overall, "Wanting You" is a beautiful and heart-wrenching song about the universal longing for love and the hope and pain that come with it.

I'm 61 years old, my father a bully, never married or dated, but I say this towards the end of my life, I never thought such beauty existed, as we grow old we all know whether we admit it or not, that, true love, the love for another, is the most important, relevant thing there is, this is the meaning of life, we all know it when we hear such music, it brings us all to our senses, in our hearts we know what we love, and want, and what is true to our nature, don't we.

These two could do duets like no two other lovers could. They were a gift to us while they were here & remain a gift to us even after they departed & their gorgeous musical voices will go on to live forever in our hearts.

There will never be anything like this ever again - a beautifully photographed romantically emotional duet

I love your name with a passion. My father is now in Heaven with my dear Mother. My Father's real name was Timothy John but they called him Jack just like JFK. Of course my last name is the same as yours & my parents. How wonderful to meet you.

A film like this would never make it today. Things really change, some for the best and some for the worst. Today there are no musical movies which really ended at the end of the late 50's to early 60's.

Believe it or not, the movie called, THE DESCENDENTS, even though its a recent movie geared towards teenagers is actually pretty good with a couple of surprisi ng songs in it...not the quality of MAC/EDDY movies or songs but at least entertaining to the new generation that probably wouldn't watch our old classics!!! My 11 yr old granddaughter and I watched all three of the DESCENDENTS trilogy, maybe I should have her watch MAC/EDDY and c her reaction!!

They weren't acting. That is the magic of Mac Eddy ! They truly wanted each other and were so much in love. The most beautiful leading lady and most handsome leading actor of all time, all this and they could sing too! There will never be another Mac and Eddy. I have seen all their movies and love Maytime the best, with Rose Marie a close second. Jeanette Mac Donald was stunning in both, Nelson Eddy, soooooooooo handsome. I am grateful their presence has been preserved on film.
