Although a well known band in Provo, the band didn't receive nationwide exposure until late 2008 when they were chosen as openers for several of The Killers' North American tour dates. Not long after, the band was signed by major record label Mercury Records in early 2009. Additionally, the group was voted Band of the Year in 2009 by City Weekly, a popular Salt Lake City publication. Although they had several prior independent releases, the band released its debut album at Mercury/Def Jam, Habits, on March 16, 2010, with "Animal" as its lead single. The band performed "Animal" during their March 23, 2010 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the band toured opening for 30 Seconds To Mars and Mutemath throughout the Spring of 2010.
"Everybody Talk" was the first single from their sophomore album Picture Show. The single was released to Alternative Radio on December 7, 2011 and made available to digital retailers via Mercury Records on December 20, 2011. (Everybody Talks Songfacts)
First Things First
Neon Trees Lyrics

Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
It began when I was twenty-one years old
And my mom and dad were begging me to go
So I left a note and we went and hit the road
I went out to find my soul and left the only comfort that I'd known
It wasn't 'bout a girl or even California bleeding
It was all about me choosing where to go
And I sing
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
There were years I felt like everything was new
Long before the troubles of my youth
There were days and nights I couldn't see the end
And I swear the music was my only friend
You learn to lie about forgiveness
When you choose to let down all your pride
I don't wanna be so famous
I just want to sing until I die
So sing it
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
When I wish upon a star
I'll tell it how I got this far
It began when I learn how to face myself
And I'm still deciding if I'm something else
I'm a million different people all the time
But there's only one of me to get it right
I'm gonna get right
Oh oh, I'm gonna get it right, I'm gonna get it right
Oh oh oh
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
You are never gonna get
Everything you want in this world
First things first
Get what you deserve
The song "First Things First" by Neon Trees is a power-packed, inspirational song that motivates people to prioritize their goals and get what they deserve in life. The song starts with the realization that one can never get everything they want in this world, and hence need to focus on what they truly deserve. The first step towards achieving our passions and desires is to make a choice - the choice to leave behind comfort zones and go out into the world in search of one's soul. The song tells about the author's experience when he was 21 years old and left his mom and dad to explore the world with his friend Chris.
It goes on to say that sometimes, music is the only friend that never leaves us. Despite the struggles and hardships that one may have to face in life, one must never give up on their dreams. The lyrics talk about learning to forgive and let go of pride to gain forgiveness. The song asserts that one doesn't need to be famous to achieve their dreams; they just need to keep singing until they die. The song sums up by saying that one can only strive to get it right, and with hard work and perseverance, they will eventually achieve what they deserve.
