Neuroactive was formed in 1991 by Jarkko Tuohimaa, Ville Brusi, and Vesa Rainne. Signing their first album, Morphology, in 1994 with Cyberware Productions, the group went on to produce Phonic Trace in 1997. Shortly thereafter, Brusi and Rainne left the group and Kimmo Karjalainen came on board to sing for two albums (Fiber Optic Rhythm, Transients). Following Kimmo's departure Jarkko has been working with various guest vocalists.
Neuroactive signed with A Different Drum in 1998, and continues to release material under that label.

Important meeting and relations
Deep frozen from your dearest ones
Slowly slid into an isolation
And was it worth it
Did you see your dreams come true
Was it worth it
Sometimes we fall
Fragile figures in the night
We could still feel alive
It helps to walk out of the line sometimes
We dance till dawn
Brilliant creatures intertwined
Guided by the beats of our unruly hearts
We feel sublime
I got trapped in your expectations
And pushed myself too far
A stranger to my dearest ones
Slowly slid into imagination
And was it worth it
Did I see your dreams come true
I often forgot that
There's nothing here to hold on to
Except you
Sometimes we fall
Fragile figures in the night
We could still feel alive
It helps to walk out of the line sometimes
We dance till dawn
Brilliant creatures intertwined
Guided by the beats of our unruly hearts
We feel sublime
In Neuroactive's song "Was It Worth It," the lyrics deal with the consequences of being trapped in obligations and expectations, leading to a sense of isolation from loved ones. The first verse suggests that someone has become frozen from their dearest ones due to important meetings and relations, possibly indicating that they have prioritized work over personal relationships. The chorus questions whether it was worth it in the end, and if they have achieved their dreams. The second verse reveals that the singer has also become trapped in someone else's expectations, pushing themselves too far and becoming a stranger to their loved ones. However, they realize that the only thing truly worth holding onto is the person causing them to feel trapped.
The song's message is about the importance of taking risks and not being held back by obligations or expectations. Through the use of imagery, such as "fragile figures in the night" and "brilliant creatures intertwined," the song speaks to the beauty of breaking free from these constraints and dancing to the beats of our own hearts. The chorus suggests that in the end, it is not worth sacrificing personal relationships and dreams for the sake of work or other obligations. The song encourages listeners to let go of what holds them back and embrace their true selves.
