Like the Jackson 5 before them, New Edition became a pop phenomenon, and were big enough to have Madonna as an opening act during their early days.
The group parted company with Starr in 1984; Starr responded by promptly creating the group New Kids on the Block, essentially New Edition with Caucasian teenagers. After the split the boys still received success from singles such as "Cool It Now, Mr. Telephone Man", and "Count Me Out". Around 1986, Bobby Brown was voted out of the group, due to behavioral problems during concerts, He went on to pursue a solo career in 1987 but did not find success in his solo ventures until 1988. Brown was replaced by former solo child star Johnny Gill who would become an official member that same year. The group's sound also evolved at this time from bubblegum pop-styled R&B to smoother, more adult music. The new material, primarily produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, had a strong new jack swing feel. The first album recorded with Gill, Heart Break, had numerous R&B hits, including "If It Isn't Love", "Can You Stand The Rain", "N.E. Heart Break", and "Boys To Men" (which later lent its name to the Philadelphia-based group Boyz II Men).
New Edition essentially broke up in 1989, with Bell, Bivins, and DeVoe forming the popular hip hop group Bell Biv DeVoe, Ralph Tresvant beginning his solo career and Gill restarting his solo career, with more success this time. In 1991, the group had a semi-reunion of sorts when they recorded a remix of the Bell Biv DeVoe track "Word To The Mutha!" in which all six members performed and appeared in the music video.
In 1996, the reunion became complete, as all six former members reunited for the Home Again album. Although the album featured the hit singles "Hit Me Off" and "I'm Still In Love With You", the ensuing tour would prove disastrous for the group. By the middle leg of the tour in 1997, Bobby Brown and Mike Bivins left, due to egos clashing and a less-than-harmonious time with the other members. The band canceled the tour and went on indefinite hiatus soon afterward.
The band reformed again in 2002 without Bobby Brown and released an album on Bad Boy Records entitled "One Love". They are currently working in the studio with plans to release another album with all six members in 2008.

There's a better place for you
I mean what you really need is someone who cares
Someone who's gonna be there for you, someone like me
Someone with sensitivity
Girl, I know it's been hard since he went away
And left you so sad you cry everyday
Because for you I'm here, you won't be without love
Don't need a man that'll give you money
Come on let me show you just what you need honey (I got what you need)
You don't need a man that'll treat you wrong
You need a man with sensitivity (a man like me)
Someone who can love you
Someone who will need you
Someone who will treat you right (like me girl)
Someone who will hold at night
Someone stable in your life (ah baby)
You need a man with sensitivity
A man like me (baby)(honey)
Baby and I'm the man (ah you no, you no)
Baby like I do baby (hang in their baby)
You need a man with sensitivity
A man like me
See you need someone who's there like a gentleman
If anybody can fit the description baby I can
Someone who cares and dares to give himself completely
You got it in me you need a man with sensitivity
You need a man, not any man
Warm and sensitive that's what I can give
You need a man, not any man
Warm and sensitive that's what I can give
You need a man, not any man
Warm and sensitive that's what I can give
Man with sensitivity
A man like me
Don't need a man that'll give you money
Come on let me show you just what you need honey (I got what you need)
You don't need a man that'll treat you wrong
You need a man with sensitivity (a man like me)
Save a little love for me (sensitivity)
Baby I got what you need (I got it)
Man with sensitivity
A man like me
Hold on my darling
Don't let me down
The song "Sensitivity" by New Edition is a love song that speaks to the listener about what they need to find in a partner. The first verse speaks about not wasting tears on an insensitive man, because there is a better place for you. This implies that the man is not giving the listener what she needs emotionally. The chorus reinforces the idea that the listener needs someone who cares and can be there for her, someone with sensitivity. The second verse speaks directly to the listener, saying that the singer knows it has been hard for her, but he is there for her now. He wants to kiss away her tears and erase her doubts, because he cares for her.
The rest of the song repeats the message that the listener needs someone with sensitivity, and that the singer is that someone. He promises that he will love her, need her, treat her right, and hold her at night. He also promises to be stable in her life, which implies that the insensitive man from the first verse was not stable. The song ends with the singer asking the listener to hold on to him and not let him down, reinforcing the idea that he is the one she needs.
Overall, "Sensitivity" is a song about finding the right partner who can give you what you need emotionally. The song suggests that a sensitive partner is important for emotional stability, and that the listener should not settle for someone who doesn't give her that.

I miss the new jack swing era. I thought it was lame at the time when I was a kid but later in life I find myself coming back to these songs. So smooth and soulful
