Here We Go Again
New Found Glory Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just he uses love for sex
And sure she uses sex for love
And they're both hoping for the best
I also have that dream you're thinking of
If we place a blindfold on our eyes
Iron and gold appear the same
It's intense hope that makes us try
So we go on and play the game

And once again we get attached
And think we've found the answer
Here! Here! Here we go again
Ran into many walls
But I know I'll get that answer
Here we go again
We loved not wisely but to well...

We're hoping she will be the one
But we never learn from our mistakes
And bassed on beauty love soon dies
Then we make our move to separate
Yes iron and gold appear the same
But one is costly to obtain
And I'll be the only onle blame
If I resist I know I'll gain

And once again we get attached
And think we've found the answer
Here! Here! Here we go again
Ran into many walls
But I know I'll get that answer
Here! Here! Here we go again

We loved not wisely but too well...
We loved not wisely but, not wisely but too well!

Yes iron and gold appear the same
But one is costly to obtain
And I'll be the only one blame
If I go on and play the game

And once again we get attached
And think we've found the answer
Here! Here! Here we go again
Ran into many walls
But I know I'll get that answer
Here! Here! Here we go again

Here we go again! Here we go again!

We loved not wisely but too well!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Here We Go Again by New Found Glory seem to be about the cycle of failed relationships, and the tendency to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. The opening lines suggest that one partner is using love as a means to get sex, while the other is using sex to try and find love. Both hope for the best, but ultimately it leads to disappointment, as their motivation for being together is fundamentally flawed. The singer also admits to having the same dream as his partners, which implies that he too is guilty of using and being used in relationships.

The blindfold metaphor highlights the idea that we often cannot see the difference between the things we want and the things that will ultimately be bad for us. We are driven by intense hope to keep trying, even when we keep hitting the same walls.

The line "we loved not wisely but too well" is taken from Shakespeare's Othello, and suggests that the characters' passions are so strong that they lead to their downfall. In this case, the singer is acknowledging that despite his repeated failures, he is still driven by an intense desire for intimacy and connection, even if it means making the same mistakes over and over again.

Shelter is soooo much better!!!!

Anon Nymous

An odd choice for a Shelter song to cover. It's far from their best. Something from Attaining the Supreme, or, Perfection of Desire would have been better choices.
