I'll Stay With You
New Order Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Verse)
Hey, you, what is the matter?
Tell me the truth, I won’t laugh at you.
Where these words grew?
Were they unkind?
That guy’s a fool, he’s crossed the line.

(Chorus)
I’ll stay with you
Till hell freezes over.
We’re at to each other
Like sister and brother.
You’re one of a kind,
High on my agenda,
Oh, I’ll change your mind,
When will you surrender?

(Verse)
We never left in,
Your world felt unharmed
It cut like a blade
Right through your heart.
And where your friends
Just when you needed them?
They were not there,
Why did you believe in them?

(Chorus)
I’ll stay with you
Till hell freezes over.
We’re at to each other
Like sister and brother.
You’re one of a kind,
High on my agenda,
Oh, I’ll change your mind,
When will you surrender?

(Chorus)
I’ll stay with you
Till hell freezes over.
We’re at to each other
Like sister and brother.
You’re one of a kind,
High on my agenda,
Oh, I’ll change your mind,

When will you surrender?
When will you surrender?

The song “I’ll Stay With You” by New Order is a beautiful and heartfelt piece about someone who is going through a hard time and needs support. The singer is trying to comfort and understand their friend and find out what is bothering them. The chorus is repetitive and reassuring, promising to stick around and help out no matter what the difficulties are. The lyrics paint a picture of a true and genuine friendship and a deep connection between two people. The singer is asking the friend to trust them and to allow them to help.

The first verse of the song starts with the singer asking their friend what is wrong and telling them that they won’t laugh. They ask where the unkind words came from and sympathize with their plight. The second verse delves deeper into the friend's situation, asking if their friends were there for them when they needed them. Bernard is like Bob Dylan. Not the best singer, but his songs have so much meaning and the chorus on this song is sublime and absolute genius.

Indeed

@BamEaton

I love how 80's this album sounds. Absolutely brilliant.

@lushys

How many new wave bands from the late 70s/early 80s can honestly say they put out something of this caliber in 2013? This is insane.... I mean I love the Cure and see them as often as I can but I have to say that The Cure's back cat is what keeps them "attractive" for live shows. New Order is putting out their best work with each new release.. this band is incredible.

@Diggarci

Fuck yeah man you get the point even Depeche Mode can't say the same...

@dorco99

These are old songs recorded years before 2013 hence the name, but fantastic all the same, these songs have hooky on them and he left in 2007 .

@smilejenkins

Depeche Mode released their best album in 2013 too imo
