The Rollies, misalnya A. Riyanto, Titiek Puspa, Johannes Purba, Antonius.

Takkan tergoda walau dibuai juta pesona
Srikandi kekasih Dewata
Pujaan setiap satria
Lembut tapi penuh dengan timbang rasa
Sikap lantang tegas bagai karang laga
Bakti diri tanpa harap balas jasa
Maju demi cita-cita bersama
Takkan terlena oleh cumbu rayu Arjuna
Takkan tergoda walau dibuai juta pesona
Srikandi kau lambang kaum Hawa
Tonggak nusa melati negara
Srikandi kau kekasih Dewata
Kau pujaan setiap satria
The lyrics of “Srikandi” by New Rollies encapsulate a deep and multifaceted exploration of love, identity, and a strong sense of purpose. The opening lines reject the superficial portrayal of love often associated with flowers and decorative gardens. Instead, the song proposes a more profound and expansive understanding of love that transcends societal boundaries and class distinctions. This love is vibrant and thriving, suggesting that true affection is unconfined by societal norms and expectations. In Indonesian culture, “Srikandi” represents a heroic female warrior from the Mahabharata, which adds layers of meaning. The lyrics celebrate not just romantic love but a broad, enduring passion that encompasses resilience and strength, positioning the subject of the song as an emblem of empowerment beyond the confines of traditional feminine roles.
The song then highlights the unwavering resolve of Srikandi, asserting her independence and strength against external seductions, particularly referencing Arjuna, a renowned figure from the same epic who represents charm and heroism. The lyrics suggest that, despite Arjuna's allure and the temptation of superficial happiness, Srikandi remains anchored in her convictions and purpose. This duality emphasizes that true strength does not succumb to distractions, reinforcing her character as not merely a romantic interest but as a figure of integrity and resolve. It speaks to the internal struggles one may face in love, contrasting societal expectations with personal convictions, displaying Srikandi as a figure who knows and holds steadfast to her values.
As the song progresses, Srikandi is cast as an ideal of femininity that is resilient and nurturing, yet assertive and just. Her kindness is paired with a strong sense of justice, depicted through the imagery of steadfastness akin to rocks in battle. This juxtaposition portrays Srikandi as a multidimensional character who embodies both gentleness and fierce independence. The line about selfless service without expectation of reward reinforces the thematic essence of duty and collective aspirations, suggesting that her love and commitment are not merely personal but connected to a broader cultural and national identity. Srikandi becomes a symbol of communal ideals, embodying the spirit of dedication and sacrifice which is revered in the cultural narrative.
Ultimately, the song culminates in an affirmation of Srikandi as a beacon for women and a pillar of society. She is described as a “tonggak nusa melati negara,” which translates to a foundational pillar for the nation, signifying her importance beyond individual narratives. This not only celebrates womanhood but also invites a larger conversation about female empowerment and agency within the context of societal development. The repeated mention of her being the beloved of the gods and a muse for every knight reaffirms her pivotal role in the epic’s narrative and highlights the respect she commands. Thus, the song serves as an empowering anthem celebrating not just Srikandi's character but the essence of strong women who defy societal limitations to champion their ideals.
