Hi Larry! That was quite a bunch of interesting things you related to me.
I've met some interesting people like a guy who works at CBS radio in California
and requested I enhance some Raspberries. Even Tommy Roe was sent a link to my enhanced version of "Sweet Pea" from his Facebook and commented "WOW,that sounds good". I just do it as a hobby cause I don't want my guitar talents to get rusty since I don't play in our local rock band anymore.

A lot of people find the site by accident cause I do not promote it. I have enough
on my plate producing the audio and the finished video to think about promoting the channel. I just throw it up on my Youtube channel and hope someone who likes oldies sees it. So far I've got around 8,000 subscriber and 6 million hits.
So it gives me incentive to keep doing it cause I have a nice audience to share it
with. Yes I know about the wrecking crew and I was shocked to find out all the groups they did the backing for when I did research on them.

I feel obligated to keep doing this because (1) There is not going to be songs of this caliber written and produced anymore. These are artistic compositions not to be equaled alone rivaled. (2) We are stuck with these analog classics and sometimes we get nice stereo versions of the mono but there is still something missing that can make them sound better. I work primarily on the stereo imaging
by critically examining the left and right channels "empty spaces" and track on
instrumentation, keyboard, vocals and percussion. This makes for a more pleasurable listening experience but you really have to know what your doing
because I walk a fine line between obscuring or distorting the original quality.
I try to preserve the original integrity of the original!

What helped me out was our band had a home recording studio we built in the basement of Rick Kantner's home in the 1990's when we had a Beatles tribute band (Abbey Road" ) I have posted some videos of us on Youtube! We had an 8 track Tascam (sound on sound) reel to reel and a bunch of high end processors
so after 10 years of recording ourselves we all got pretty good at how it's done.
I'm pulling from that and my guitar/drum playing since 1964 so it gives me a perspective similar to what a "producer" has to deal with in getting that highly polished song recorded. I have more Gary Lewis & the Playboys to do this week.
I'm retired so this gives me the time I need to (8-10 hours) to produce one new enhanced song with a video. But it's the most fun hobby a guy could have.

I wish I did too! When I pull up a new song to enhance I have no idea how I'm gonna do it. I just keep pulling my ideas from 2 sources (1) The knowledge I've learned from the masters (groups of the 60's and 70's) and especially techniques George Martin used with the Beatles like keep the instruments up front. The Beatles were so outrageous with jamming microphones down the
throats of instruments (even trumpets) that they kept blowing out the mics and the studio was wondering what was going on. They were hilarious and outrageous if you've ever read a book on the studio sessions at Abbey Road.

(2) The 2nd is an ever harder challenge and that is: When working on an artist you must put yourself into the MINDSET of the artist and what they were trying to accomplish. You have to know what sounds good that you are adding and not detracting from the original. I've only gotten decent at it in the last year.
Most of what I have previously uploaded was slapped together and not
good enough to be displayed to the general public or oldies fans. They are smarter then you think!

(3) Even if you pass the first 2 hurdles with flying colors that still leaves you with another obstacle and that is MIXING. I really enjoy doing this on the computer because it allows critical quality control of a digital mainframe.
This is where I have ruined what would otherwise have been better recordings.
What I do a lot of here isn't just volume adjustment but "trimmer control"!
Every instrument added can be re equalized in ways that make sensational
instrumentation, percussion and vocals. It's maximization of signal processing
from the mainframe track to the last one. I thought you might find this info interesting because it explains as simply as I can how I have been doing it.
My mom told me when I was a kid that I "had an ear for music" and when It sounds good to my ears that's usually a good sign that I did it right!

So many memories. You once again nailed it! Gary has a great voice and you mixed it so well with all the instrumental sounds.

@1953childstar

Hmmm, Ron Hicklin was the singer who overdubbed the singing of Gary Lewis..

Short time listener, first time writer. I've fallen in love with, and become so addicted to, your channel that every time I want to to comment I just can't think of what to say without writing a book. But I have to say something. First, I don't know how I did not know about your channel until recently - I'm constantly looking for covers and remixes of my favorite songs and, somehow, never stumbled across yours - but I can't begin to tell you how much this work that you're doing really matters. One night a couple of weeks ago I was up until the sun came up. Every time I thought I'd heard all my favorite songs there was another...and another.

Full disclosure: I was in the music business most of my adult life - first as a DJ for Philadelphia's #1-rated radio station (also considered the #1 rock station in the country for a good portion of the 80s) for about 20 years, and then as a band manager and record producer. I was fortunate to have attended the world premiere of the documentary The Wrecking Crew and met -- and interviewed -- Hal Blaine. Even as a teenager - and I don't know why - for some reason I became obsessed with session musicians and knowing who really played on all the hits I loved. Meeting Hal was like meeting God to me. I never met Joe Osborn but I'm probably the only person at a party who can call out, "That's Joe Osborn's bass!" when one of his songs comes on. I can honestly say that Joe's bass lines helped me fall in love with music back in the 60s and 70s, which led to my career in the music business. I even have an entire playlist of songs Joe plays on (most of which which Hal played on, as well). As you know, your library includes many of those songs -- including this one from Gary Lewis. It was one of his #2s (and This Diamond Ring was one of his #1s, which I'm looking forward to hearing from you).

At any rate, at the risk of going on and on, I just want to thank you on behalf of The Wrecking Crew (unofficially) and their fans for including so many of their catalog in your enhancements. It's like hearing them recorded brand new, on today's equipment. Just breathtaking.
