Other Side
New Years Day Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It looks so easy being trapped inside this head of mine
Disturbing dreams and haunted beings, they control my mind
Dark desires fuel the fires, suffocating, I can't breathe
Bet you'd love to see me burn, so move aside or come with me

I will always be your tortured soul, don't fix me up, just let me go
Come join me if you like, I'll be on the other side
I will always be your tortured soul, don't fix me up, just let me go
Come join me if you like, I'll be on the other side
(Other side!)

How did I end up this way? How did I end up addicted
To the pain and suffering? I have sealed my fate
Dark desires fuel the fires, suffocating, I can't breathe
Bet you'd love to see me burn so move aside or come with me

I will always be your tortured soul, don't fix me up, just let me go
Come join me if you like, I'll be on the other side
I will always be your tortured soul, don't fix me up, just let me go
Come join me if you like, I'll be on the other side

I have a slight confession; I brought this on myself
Will never learn my lesson, I know what I've become

Come with me

I will always be your tortured soul, don't fix me up, just let me go
Come join me if you like, I'll be on the other side
I will always be your tortured soul, don't fix me up, just let me go

Come join me if you like, I'll be on the other side
(Other side!)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Other Side" by New Years Day suggests that the writer is struggling with their darker thoughts and desires. They feel as though they are trapped in their own mind, with disturbing dreams and haunting beings that control them. The writer acknowledges their addiction to pain and suffering, and that these dark desires are fueling a fire that is suffocating them. They speak to someone who they believe would like to see them suffer and burn, telling them to either move aside or join them on the journey to the "other side." The chorus is a plea to not try and fix them, but to let them be and join them if they desire.

The writer questions how they ended up this way, admitting that they brought this on themselves and that they will never learn their lesson. They acknowledge that they have sealed their fate and that their tortured soul will always be a part of them. The song ends with an inviting call to come with them to the "other side."

Overall, the lyrics depict a person struggling with their inner demons and asking for acceptance rather than judgment or pity. It is a continuous struggle that they cannot, and do not want to, escape from.

@CZsWorld

I think New Years Day just lost all of their epileptic fans.

But seriously, I like the song. Definitely a heavier sound than anything they've done, but with Nikki, Anthony and Jake, they can pull it off well.

I would like to hear something in the EP with those punk roots, but I'm happy with this song.
