Marathon
Newton Family Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Régi idők, antik idők, a görög lihegve fut.
Ereje már, végére jár, de Athénig még eljut.
Perzsel a nap, vakít a nyári ég,
negyvenezer lépés a kedvetekér.

Marathon, Marathon, Marathon, Marathon.

Újabb idők, modern, idők, valaki mindig fut.
Hajtja magát, egyre tovább, híre messzire jut.
Perzsel a láng, vakít a fáklyafény,
negyvenezer lépés a kedvetekér.

Marathon, Marathon, Marathon, Marathon.

Újabb idők, modern, idők, valaki mindig fut.
Hajtja magát, egyre tovább, híre messzire jut.
Perzsel a láng, vakít a fáklyafény,
negyvenezer lépés a kedvetekér.

Marathon, Marathon, Marathon, Marathon.
Marathon, Marathon, Marathon, Marathon.
Marathon, Marathon, Marathon, Marathon

Marathon, Marathon, Marathon, Marathon
Marathon, Marathon, Marathon, Marathon.

Overall Meaning

The song “Marathon” by Newton Family is a tribute to the ancient and modern times of running a Marathon. The first verse talks about the ancient Greek times when someone ran to Athens to carry important news. The runner is out of breath but still manages to arrive in Athens. The sun is scorching and the heat is unbearable, but the runner takes forty thousand steps to deliver the message. Then the chorus comes in, repeating “Marathon” four times.

The second verse talks about modern times when someone always seems to be running. The person keeps pushing themselves and their limits further and further, and their achievements spread far and wide. The flame is burning hot, and the torch’s light is blinding, but still, the person takes forty thousand steps to reach their goal. The chorus repeats again.

The song’s message is clear: no matter the time and no matter the circumstances, we will always be running a race, be it from ancient Greece to modern days. The song is an encouragement to keep pushing ourselves to the limit and to accomplish great things, no matter how difficult the journey may be.
