We lay our crowns
At the feet of Jesus
The greatness of
Mercy and love
At the feet of Jesus
We cry holy, holy, holy
We cry holy, holy, holy
Is the lamb
We fall down
We lay our crowns
At the feet of Jesus
The greatness of
Mercy and love
At the feet of Jesus
We cry holy, holy, holy
We cry holy, holy, holy
We cry holy, holy, holy
Is the lamb
We cry holy, holy, holy
We cry holy, holy, holy
We cry holy, holy, holy
Is the lamb
The lyrics of Nichole Nordeman's song We Fall Down talk about the act of surrendering ourselves in humility and worship to Jesus, recognizing his greatness and mercy. In the chorus, the repetition of the phrase "we cry holy, holy, holy" emphasizes the sheer awe and reverence we feel in his presence, recognizing him as the lamb of God. The lyrics of the song encourage listeners to let go of their pride and self-righteousness by laying down their "crowns" at his feet, acknowledging his worthiness and our own unworthiness. Through these lyrics, the song communicates a sense of surrender to a higher power, a call to a life of worship and submission to Jesus.
The phrase "we fall down" is a reference to Revelation 5:8-10 where the elders fall down before the Lamb in worship. The song talks about laying our crowns at the feet of Jesus which may refer to 2 Timothy 4:8 which says "Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing." The songwriters wrote it during a retreat in the mountains with some other friends. The song was first recorded by Chris Tomlin, which helped it gain popularity in Christian circles.
