Poor Boy
Nick Drake Lyrics

Never sing for my supper
I never help my neighbor
Never do what is proper
For my fair share of labor.

I'm a poor boy
And I'm a rover
Count your coins and
Throw them over my shoulder
I may grow older
Nobody knows
How cold it grows
And nobody sees
How shaky my knees
Nobody cares
How steep my stairs
And nobody smiles
If I cross their stiles.

Oh poor boy
So sorry for himself
Oh poor boy
So worried for his health.
You may say every day
Where will he stay tonight.

Never know what I came for
Seems that I've forgotten
Never ask what I came for
Or how I was begotten.

I'm a poor boy
And I'm a ranger
Things I say
May seem stranger than Sunday
Changing to Monday.
Nobody knows
How cold it flows
And nobody feels
The worn down heels
Nobody's eyes
Make the skies
Nobody spreads
Their aching heads.

Oh poor boy
So worried for his life
Oh poor boy
So keen to take a wife.

He's a mess but he'll say yes
If you just dress in white.

Nobody knows
How cold it blows
And nobody sees
How shaky my knees
Nobody cares
How steep my stairs
And nobody smiles
If you cross their stiles.

Oh poor boy
So sorry for himself
Oh poor boy
So worried for his health.
You may say every day
Where will he stay tonight.

Oh poor boy
So worried for his life
Oh poor boy
So keen to take a wife.

Oh poor boy
So sorry for himself
Oh poor boy
So worried for his health
Oh poor boy.

Kandours

I'm 28 years old and I'm discovering this man beautiful music. He would probably have become of the greatest if he hadnt died so young, such a tragedy. He is like the Jeff Buckley of his generation.

Kandours yeah . I met some who was at a bar he once played at. She said he showed up, noisy bar. He would set up, sound check while people drank ,smoked and talked. Totally unfazed by anything. I sometimes wish I could of been there and see him. When I listen to his songs. Everything just goes away...incredible music. I know someone called Sam Sallon. Check him out. He’s on here . His songs are beautiful. He also isn’t bothered by fame and fortune just his guitar his songs, his wife and child. Sam Sallon

His generation, which is my generation, already had Tim Buckley - Jeff's dad - who blew everyone's mind. If you haven't checked him out already, you really must.

Ele CineArte

He is already great with what he did ...

Michael Bisignano

In Cognito

Time travel: 1993, I was 18 and hitching across the country from Eugene, Oregon to New York City. I stopped in the Rockies-Boulder, Colorado to visit a friend from high school going to UC(University of Colorado) helped him move from his apartment to a house on 9th & University. During the move Reid found this beautiful album and several others in an alley dumpster. He asked if Id heard of Nick Drake & I hadnt nor had he. So over a beautiful summer rooftop dinner high in the Rockies high on Cubensis Mushrooms we listened to this moving album. Ever since whenever i hear Bryter Layter it evokes that memory of my youthful sojourn of self discovery...its my Anthem to being an American Poor boy headed to my life, listening for beauty along the way!!
